Number System: Binary & Decimal Systems
What’s DATA? What’s Information?
Understanding Data From ancient times for human one of the most important resources of keeping alive was information. During history people invented many methods, tools and techniques to gain and distribute information. For ex: simple paper messages, sounds, some objects, animals. And each culture has got its own ones. Indians had got smoke messages. Some nations had got fire messages. By developing of science appeared electric lights, telegraph, telephone, radio. Previous century was record-breaker: TV, computer, Internet, cell phone and etc.
Information of technology
Binary System Scientists realized that they can use principal of electric lights, when it’s switched on or off. They give periodically to some parts of computer electricity. After that computer understood this signals. That’s why in first computers vacuum tubes were used. And mathematically scientist represented these signals as 0 (off) and 1 (on). For this reason binary system is used in computers. Binary means 2 digit (bi – two). Every information inside computers is represented in binary system. So our photo also stored in computer with 0 and 1 s. Year by year engineers found a way to translate our language to computer one. The first engineers doing this began to be called programmer.
Binary System We measure computer information (data) in bits and bytes. Bit is short for binary digit. It is the smallest unit of information that a computer can understand. One bit represents a 1 or 0 digit in a binary numeral or a true or false logical condition. • 1 kilobytes (one kilobyte is 1024 bytes), • 1 megabytes (one megabyte is 1048576 bytes), or • 1 gigabytes (one gigabyte is 1073741824 bytes).
