Norwegian Mapping Authority - since 1773 • 850 employees • 4 divisions • The land register - Norwegian properties are registered in the land register, which is the official register of legal rights and obligations associated with fixed property and housing cooperatives. • Sea chart division • Geodetic institute • Land Mapping division – 280 empl. Responsible for – Topographical and other official geodata – Coordinating the Norwegian NSDI and Inspire

History of Norwegian NSDI
History: - cooperation between public organisations, ministries etc about geographical infrastrukture • In 1986 the first version of a national standard for data-exchange ”SOSI” – was introduced Ensures a common reference for an adaptation to international standards • In 1991 -92 NMA implemented the new ”FKBstandard” - and at the same time the Geovekst cooperation for cost-sharing for establishment and updating of GI. NMA is coordinating the procurement-process. • In 1996 -2001 NMA managed a program for documentation of thematic information – followed up as ”Arealis co-operation” until 2005 • 2001 -2007 NMA accomplished several advanced R&D-projects – which has contributed to the development of the geo. Financing the NSDI • Ministry of Environment – coordination cost • Each ministry – underlying national agencies – responsible for own data • Municipalities – Cadaster and master plans • Pricing – WMS raster map services free of use – All environmental data free of charge – Charging for download of reference data (Mapping agency and some others) – Sales of data to private firms • Simple access system – Annual fee for all data • Revenue back to data owners – All revenue used to update data
Annual fee for access to basic topographic data – 2012 – 48, 6 mill NOK - organisation fee depends on organisation size
Annual fee income delivered back to owners of data
