Nintendo: Past to Present By Marco Burgos, Carlos Padilla, and Robert Williams
In the Beginning Nintendo released a card game in 1889 in Kyoto. The card game became very popular in Japan in the early 1900’s.
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) In 1975, in cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric, Nintendo created a video game system using electronic video recording (EVR) player. That video game was the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was a hit in Japan, so Nintendo released the NES in the U. S. with R. O. B. the Robot. When Nintendo came to the U. S. , their rival was SEGA. “Duck Hunt” and “Super Mario Bros. ” became a hit for the NES.
Game Boy n In 1989, Nintendo released the Game Boy. It was the first portable handheld and had interchangeable Game Paks. It released “The Adventure Of Link” sequel to the top selling game “The Legend of Zelda” in the U. S. . It also created “World of Nintendo” to help market Nintendo products. Kids were familiar with Mario as they were with Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny!
Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) Nintendo had to make a new video game system. So in 1991, Japan released the SNES along with Super Mario World and had 16 -bit graphics. Nintendo of America Inc. developed portable fun centers to assist the Starlight Foundation in bringing happiness to hospitalized children by allowing them to enjoy their favorite video game.
Nintendo 64 n Nintendo launched the Nintendo 64 in 1996. It had 64 -bit graphics! Thousands lines up to be the first to experience the world’s true Nintendo 64. 500, 000 systems had been sold. The Nintendo 64 had 64 -bit graphics.
Game Boy Pocket n On early September, Nintendo released the Game Boy Pocket. Every boys’ backpacks had a Game Boy Pocket, a sleeker 30% smaller version of the world’s most popular hand held system.
Game Boy Color n In 1998, Nintendo introduced the Game Boy Color and new devices like the Game Boy Camera and printer. Poke`mon became very popular with the Game Boy. Everybody wanted to collect them all!
Nintendo Game. Cube n In 2001, the Nintendo Game. Cube was released around the world. The Game. Cube was Nintendo’s 4 th console in America(6 th in Japan). The Game. Cube had 128 -bit graphics! There were many popular games but Super Smash Bros. Melee was the most popular.
Game Boy Advance n In 2001, right after the Game. Cube, Nintendo released the Game Boy Advance. It had 32 -bit graphics and was sold world wide! Nintendo added they were called the “L” and “R” buttons. The “L” stands for left and the “R” stands for right.
Game Boy Advance SP n In 2003, Nintendo developed a hand held that had the same screen as the Game Boy Advance, but this one was lighter, and can fold. That hand held was the Game Boy Advance SP.
Game Boy Micro n Nintendo decided to make another Game Boy, but better. They made a cell phonelike hand held that played Game Boy Game Paks. It had a 2” screen and had better sound and picture!
Nintendo DS n In Japan, the Nintendo DS holds a record for the fastest selling hand held in Japan! More than 10 million units have been sold since December 2004! The DS is kind of like the SP, except it has two touch screens!
Nintendo DS Lite n The last DS looked ugly! Nintendo then made a better hand held called the Nintendo DS Lite. The DS Lite is the same thing but looks better and lighter. It is like a rectangle, instead of a sloppy one like the original. This hand held sold millions like the normal one!
Nintendo Wii n In 2006, Nintendo introduced the most amazing console yet, the Wii. This console is the best-selling console today! It has several advanced and revolutionary features! With wireless motion-sensitive controllers, built in Wi-Fi capability, and cool features, this console deserves to be the top selling console!
