Task Implementation/ Management Overview
26 Tasks in 2012 -2015 Work Plan
Task Implementation • Each Task is made of one or more Component(s) • Each Component is implemented by a set of Leads and Contributors (GEO Members or POs) • Leads and Contributors are represented by individuals • One individual representing a Lead agrees to serve as a Point of Contact for the Component (see “Guide to Leads”)
Task Implementation • The sum of all Leads and Contributors within (all Components of) a Task form the Task Team • The Task Team is led by the Task Coordinator whose main functions are to: - Foster interactions within Task - Ensure cross-fertilization of activities - Look for synergies with other Work Plan Tasks - Provide direct link to Implementation Boards

In Sum… • Each Task is implemented by a Task Team • Each Task Team is: (i) made of Leads and Contributors, (ii) led by a Task Coordinator, and (iii) supported by GEO Secretariat • A Task Team has direct responsibility (best effort) for management, execution, and crosscoordination of Task Components • A Task Team is fully open & inclusive • All information on Task Teams online http: //www. earthobservations. org/geoss_imp. php
Task Progress Reporting/Monitoring Overview
New Task Sheets • One Task (Component) Sheet per Component • Aligned with Work Plan structure (3 parts), and M&E logic model (outputs-activities-resources) • Include expected achievements by 2015, milestones, issues and gaps, key users, information for decision-making • Should be useful for progress monitoring (e. g. end-dates in 2012, early 2013)
Task Sheet Overview New Reporting Tool
New Task Sheets Current Status • 60% online • 20% under development • 20% not started Need for improvement to better support Task progress monitoring and reporting
Special Session 17: 30 Room A Training on Use of new Task Sheet Update Tool Discussion of Task Sheet contents Interactive Q&As Session For Points of Contact, Task Coordinators, anyone interested

Role of « Point of Contact » • • • Provide single point of communication for all those involved in Component In framework of online Work Plan Sheet update, report on progress to the GEO community (including input from other Leads and contributors) Support coordination at Task level (working with Task Coordinator, e. g. for ensuring that Component planning is well aligned with other Task Components) Serve as liaison with Task Coordinator, Communities of Practices and GEO Secretariat Bring any issue requiring guidance to attention of Community of Practice and/or Task Coordinator (who will bring issue further to Implementation Boards)
Role of « Leads » • • • In cooperation with Point of Contact, other Leads and contributors, identify key outputs/milestones with expected achievement dates Monitor progress towards milestones and outputs Identify gaps in skills and resources and encourage additional contributions to address these. Encourage new Leads or contributors to join from developing countries Communicate to Point of Contact progress made on implementation – e. g. outputs, milestones, activities Inform GEO discussions needed for achieving Component
