AHSNs: The National Picture NHS Presentation [XXXX Company] | [Type Date] NHS||Presentation toto [XXXX Company] | [Type Date]
The case for doing things differently “We need a stronger relationship with the scientific and academic communities and industry to develop solutions to health care problems and get existing solutions spread at pace and scale in the NHS. We also need to develop much stronger knowledge exchange networks to share best practice”
Academic Health Science Networks § The Government has identified Life Sciences and Healthcare as important sectors to generate new economic growth. § Spread of new ideas and ground breaking medical devices, medicines or diagnostics take too long. This must change. § The system needs stronger relationship between scientific and academic communities, industry and the NHS to develop and spread solutions at pace and scale. § AHSNs present a unique opportunity to do this.
Setting up AHSNs across the country 1. 15 AHSNs established in January 2014. 2. England became the first country in the world to have universal AHSN coverage 3. Working together across England to share best practice and innovation
Core Objectives of AHSNs: 1. Focus on the needs of patients and local populations. 2. Build a culture of partnership and collaboration. 3. Speed up adoption of innovation into practice to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience. 4. Create wealth. 5. Forge new international partnerships
AHSNs; Wealth Creation § Creating greater emphasis on wealth creation, both at a local and national level. § AHSNs aim to “de-risk” the process of doing business with the NHS. § AHSNs actively seeking partnerships with industry.
AHSNs; Simplifying access to the NHS § Reducing the number of contact points, making it easier to do business with the NHS and develop more strategic and sustainable relationships. § Simple framework and pragmatic outcome measures (health and wealth).
AHSNs; Leading Innovation § COMMITMENT: 5 year Licence ensures sustainability and stability beyond the yearly NHS financial cycle. § OPPORTUNITY: We know there are hundreds of great ideas out there. AHSNs will deliver a step -change in the way the NHS identifies, develops and adopts new innovations.
