v v v Nazarbayev University is a new university initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. The university strives to become the national brand of higher education in Kazakhstan, by combining the advantages of the national education system and the best international scientific and educational practices. The mission of Nazarbayev University is to promote the development of education and research activities in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the formation of Astana as the research and educational center of Eurasia. The academic process at the University is based on international educational standards, which contributes to the priority development of the education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan and takes it to the international level. This is the first university in Kazakhstan that is committed to working according to international academic standards and guided by the principles of autonomy and academic freedom. The University’s autonomous status was granted in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan of 19 January, 2011, “On the status of Nazarbayev University”, “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” and the “Nazarbayev Fund”.

Academics The university currently consists of six schools: 1. The School of Engineering 2. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences 3. The School of Science and Technology 4. The Graduate School of Business 5. The Graduate School of Education 6. The Graduate School of Public Policy. The School of Medicine is expected to open in 2015, and a School of Mining is currently being considered. Nazarbayev University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, ranging from bachelor’s degrees to the Ph. D.

The School of Engineering The Nazarbayev School of Engineering aims to be the leading engineering school in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The School’s goal is to prepare its graduates to meet the growing demand for professional practitioners in the fields of chemical, mechanical, civil and electronic engineering. The School is the largest school by number of Nazarbayev University students enrolled

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences programs are designed to train leaders in all aspects of social development to have versatile knowledge in the field of social, liberal and natural sciences. The School teaches its students to solve intellectual challenges they may encounter in their life and career regardless of their career choice. The School holds the largest number of seminars on the most important issues, open to the public.

The School of Science and Technology The Nazarbayev School of Science and Technology creates a unique intellectual environment for its students and faculty. The proposed educational programs are designed based on the results of research on the learning process and the application of innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The School has the widest range of degrees offered at Nazarbayev University.

The Graduate School of Business v The Nazarbayev Graduate School of Business is a promising academic institution established for business leaders. The School offers new approaches to education in the field of business management in one of the most dynamic regions in the world. Their programs offer students the opportunity to get high quality education in the field of business administration.

The Graduate School of Education Timothy Reagan who is a dean of the Graduate School of Edcuaiton said : “The Graduate School of Education of Nazarbayev University will work in the sphere of preparation of leaders and managers in the sphere of education. It should be noted that the school will prepare not teachers but managers who, in their turn, are to form the education policy. Presently, the purpose of the school is to organize enrollment of the students within the master’s programs this autumn already, ”

The Graduate School of Public Policy is aimed at training public service professionals and managers of non-governmental organizations, by focusing on raising awareness of the public and private sector in addressing the strategic issues of the public policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan and around the world.

Research Nazarbayev University is striving to become "a hub for a great deal of innovative and significant research in a number of different fields of study". In addition to research conducted by the faculty, staff and students of the University, Nazarbayev University is also home to the Centre for Life Sciences (CLS) and the Nazarbayev University Research and Innovation System (NURIS).

Labs Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics Systems Laboratory (ARMS Lab) is a research laboratory at the Department of Robotics of Nazarbayev University School of Science and Technology. The laboratory focuses on the design and implementation of intelligent devices and algorithms with an emphasis on rehabilitation, locomotion, and industrial automation applications. Current projects include an intelligent multigrasp robotic hand equipped with laser scanners for industrial automation, a hybrid quadruped robot employed legged and wheeled locomotion for different terrains and development of path planning algorithms for redundant robot manipulators.

LIFE ON CAMPUS Life on the NU campus is not only about classes. It is full of fun, joy and creativity. Cultural events, sport and outdoor activities, contests, family events.

STUDENT LIFE The Department of Student Affairs provides student services and coordinates extracurricular activities that engage NU students in creating a vibrant and diverse university life through social, intellectual, scientific, cultural, recreational, artistic, and athletic opportunities.
