Parent Participation: Parents/guardians are often required to assist in the running of competitions as meets are run totally by the generous support of volunteers. If your child is swimming you should make yourself available if called upon. This help will including helping our at fundraising events as well as poolside at meets with timekeeping; catering duties; meet set up and clear up; marshalling or team management. Many hands make light work and if everyone comes forward to help these tasks are not onerous. Swimming clubs are always looking for technical officials because each club is required to provide a quota of officials at every meet. This is a vital role and essential to make sure that race times at swim meets are official and can be used as qualifying swims. Without officials swim meets can not take place. If you are interested in these roles including Timekeeping, Starter, Judge of Stroke, Inspector of Turns, or Referee please contact the club and we will direct you to the relevant information and ensure you have adequate training.
CLUB POLICIES All NAQ and relevant HBPB policies are available to view on our website http: //www. aquahawks. co. nz/ We encourage you to read and understand the policies Code of Conduct: Please read and understand the Swim HBPB and NAQ Code of Conduct policies which are contained on our website under Policies.
Napier Aquahawks Squad Structure & Pathways
Napier Aquahawks Squad Structure cont’d We do not teach Learn-to-Swim but offer a comprehensive program for improver swimmers. Improvers must be able to swim 25 m Freestyle and Backstroke as a minimum. All prospective swimmers will do a trial swim with a coach so that they can be placed into the most suitable squad for their ability. Our squad structure is set up to provide options from 2 to 9 sessions a week and caters for a wide range of swimmer abilities. Entry into and progression through the squads is based on a Graded Time system together with discretion of the coach based on a variety of factors including technical ability; mental and physical stamina; and commitment to train and compete. Once you are placed into our program, your enrolment will roll over from month to month or term to term unless you advise us to the contrary. Please give us advance warning if you are deciding to leave NAQ or require extended time off so we have time to balance squad numbers.
SQUAD FEES Our Improvers and Junior Development Squads have club membership fees built into their term fees so to register on the SNZ database as a CLUB swimmer is at a cost of $14. 95 A fully registered COMPETITVE swimmer requires an annual Club subscription of $50 and an annual National SNZ subscription of $88. 50. ($138. 50 total). This entitles the swimmer to swim at local/regional/national and international meets. Our current squad fees as at 1 st February 2017 are:
RACE FEES Each meet is organised by a different club or regional body (or Swim NZ) who set the race entry fees for their meet These range from about $6. 50 - $8. 50 for local and HBPB Regional meets. Payment is via the SNZ website where you will enter the races you want to swim in and then pay via credit card or “paypal. ” You must pay online before they will accept your entries to the meet. Generally fees are not refundable, however if for medical reasons you cannot swim you can notify the organisers and they MAY refund your entry fees. A medical certificate will be required to support your request for a refund.
ACCOUNTS The Improvers, Junior Development and Fitness accounts are emailed out at the beginning of each school term. All other squad accounts are emailed out on a monthly basis. Payment is required 7 days from invoice date. Prompt payment is appreciated. Please note regardless of whether your child attends all sessions available to them, if you are enrolled in a particular squad you are liable for the fee for that squad and will be charged accordingly. Swim sessions are available all year round except for the school holidays and public holidays (some squads still train in the holidays). If due to public holidays or personal reasons you cannot make all the swimming lessons, we will endeavour to provide make up lesson times available. Fees are calculated on a term basis to cover fixed costs like salaries, wages and pool lane hire and therefore no refunds will be made. Payment is preferred through internet banking (see your statement for details). If there any difficulties or queries with your account please contact Admin Plus our administrators on 835 1387 or email info@adminplus. co. nz.
NAPIER AQUATIC CENTRE ENTRY CHARGE All Napier Aquahawks swimmers are required to pay a Napier Aquatic Centre entry charge of $1. 50 per sessions. Concession cards can be purchased from the Napier Aquatic Centre at the main reception area or you can pay each time upon entry. This fee is kept separate from the club swimming fees and is outside of the control of Napier Aquahawks.
SQUAD TIMETABLE Also see our timetable on website
RECOMMENDED SWIM GEAR Napier Aquahawks has kick boards for use by our Improver Squads NAQ swim caps are available for purchase from Karen Kamper We also have a range of Aquahawks clothing and apparel for purchase please see details on our webpage and facebook pages.
RECOMMENDED SWIM GEAR It is important to have all the required gear with you at every training session to enable full participation in all training sets and drills. Gear should be removed from the gear bag and placed at the end of the lane ready for the start of the session. It is much more convenient to own your own gear rather than relying on the club equipment. Please ensure it is clearly marked with your name. The picture shown is a guide only (there are many suitable brands available), but fins should be short not long, please talk to the coach if you have any doubts. Rebel Sports stock some of the equipment necessary and there a number of online sites that sell the required gear. We have found Swim T 3 (www. swimt 3. co. nz); DQ'd Ltd (www. dqdswimming. co. nz) and Teamline (www. teamline. co. nz) to be all good NZ sites with an easy return policy. Please ensure swimmers have spare goggles and caps to minimise any interruption to training due to equipment failure. Drink Bottles - all swimmers should bring at least one drink bottle to training, water is fine for most sessions and remember to clean them regularly. We do not encourage sharing of drink bottles.
Swim Meets are a chance to see how all the hard training is paying off and healthy competition will help you to achieve your aim of swimming the fastest time possible. Napier Aquahawks is a competitive swim club and we encourage all our squad swimmers to enter a range of meets on a regular basis. The more swim meets you compete at the more qualifying times you will earn and become eligible to swim in more competitions with tougher competition and greater glory! Swim meets are fun and are a great reward for all the effort put into training. Bonds with team mates are strengthened and new friends are made. If you have any queries about what to events to enter please consult with your coach. Don't enter every event as adequate rest between races is necessary to allow swimmers to perform at their best. Race choices should be varied to gain confidence in all strokes. Try to cycle through all races over a series of Swim Meets giving adequate time between swims to allow for performance improvements in that particular event.
Finding out about Swim Competitions Information about all swim meets is on the NAQ website under the Meet Flyer tab. The SNZ website also has meet information and details. Our noticeboard will also provide meet details. Please check the details of the Meet flyers as this will give you day and time by which entries are due. You will need to diary up closing dates for entries as sometimes when the season is busy, meets can be quite close together. If you miss closing dates there is no way to enter late at most meets.
Registering on the SNZ Database and Entering Swim Meets All swim meets are now required to be entered through the online SNZ database www. mypage. swimming. org. nz.
