Many horrible things happened during war time. But music helped people not to lose their heart and spirit. The songs written during the Great Patriotic War inspired the soldiers for bravery. The songs were full of patriotism and love for the Motherland.

M. Bla nter M. Isacovsky During the Second World War years soldiers' Resistance Army in France and Italy sang “Katusha” This song is about a girl who is writing a letter to her man. She asks him to defend the Motherland promises to take care of their love. This song was sung between the battles to remember home, relatives and it gave soldiers strength.
D. Shostacovich wrote Symphony № 7 “Leningrad” during the blockade time in Leningrad. On the day of the first performance all the artillery forces of Leningrad were thrown to the suppression of enemy. Despite bombs and air strikes, at the Philharmonic all the chandeliers were lit. During the performance the symphony was broadcast on the radio, as well as speakers urban network. Not only the residents of the city heard it, but also German troops who thought that the city was dead. Faith in victory, sacrifice, boundless love for the city and country were reflected in the great music.
