Welcome to Fourth Grade! v v I will introduce you to fourth grade and to our classroom. If you have any questions during my presentation, please ask them as we discuss each subject.

Class Subjects Reading v. We will read various genres of stories from both fiction and nonfiction selections throughout the school year. v. We will concentrate on reading skills, comprehension, as well as writing.

Class Subjects Accelerated Reader v Reading Levels will be determined at the start of each marking period v Students will test on books when they are ready v Students will earn points for each test they passed v Students are encouraged to keep an AR log

Class Subjects Language, Spelling and Writing v Grammar topics will be taught, tested, and reinforced through the students’ writing. v We will be writing in all subjects. v Spelling City is an excellent resource for students to use to prepare for tests

Class Subjects Math v We have the Pearson math series. v Homework will vary. v Multiplication facts a must!!!

Class Subjects Handwriting v This grade will be based on their handwriting in all subjects. v Students will receive a grade of v O (outstanding), S(satisfactory) or U(unsatisfactory)

Homework v Your child will be assigned homework every night which mainly consists of class work we have done during the day that may need to be finished at home. v Your child should also spend about 20 minutes each night on AR reading. v All homework is due the next day. v Homework demerits will be issued if the homework is not complete or not in school.

Homework v Help develop good study habits. v Check your child’s book bag for homework every night. v Check for neatness, accuracy and completeness. v Homework assignment books are a great asset. They are being filled out daily in class. Please check nightly.

Things you should know!! v Excuse notes are due within two days of student’s return to school. v Birthday treats may be ordered from café. v Walker notes must be sent in if not taking the bus that day.

Signatures Required v All tests need to be signed and returned. v All demerits need to be signed.

Musical Instruments v School year lessons are given without charge. v Students who sign up for lessons will be given a 15 minute lesson each week during the school day.
