MORECO – Mobility and Residential Costs Smart Locations for better liveability graphics. SIR SIR
MORECO Mobility and Residential Costs are Closely Linked graphics. SIR
Scheme of residential costs in centres and surroundings The more central, the higher housing costs will be high low apartment complexes private houses urban/rural centres graphics. SIR
Consequence of housing costs Housing construction is attractive in remote locations high low graphics. SIR
Scheme of private mobility costs The less central, the higher mobility costs will be high low graphics. SIR
Efficient public transport axes help to reduce private mobility costs high low graphics. SIR
MORECO: Steering future housing to smart locations with effective public transport and good supply facilities high low graphics. SIR
Scenario: heavily rising mobility costs caused by rising energy prices – smart locations reduce risks high low graphics. SIR
The Common Dream: A house in green surroundings Cheap site, large living area Garden, green surroundings Freedom, prestige, property graphics. SIR
The Problem: The more central, the more expensive The solution? New house on a “cheap” location Usually only accessible by private car graphics. SIR
The Consequence: Long distances Private costs: car(s), fuel, stress, physical inactivity Social costs: infrastructure, pollutants, noise, diseases, land consumption Risks: energy price, traffic congestions, accidents, life-cycle, property value graphics. SIR
MORECO Objective Living in smart locations Short distances, liveable surroundings High number of pedestrians and cyclists Proximity to supply facilities and public transport Low costs for mobility graphics. SIR
MORECO Objective Living in smart locations To support a sustainable settlement development which follows supply facilities and public transport axes. To steer future the housing market towards smart locations that offer a good quality of supply to minimise future mobility costs. SIR graphics. SIR

Governance context Issues and impact • A complexity and multiplicity of actors (housing, transport, spatial planning, land use. . . ) • A difficulty to identify and understand the key factors of individual choices, and levers to influence them • A need for volontarism regarding public and private decision makers and public policies The planning boundaries are not necessarily related to residential sprawl, and individual choices are not always taken in a rational and collective interest way Coordination between actors and perimeters, balance between individual needs and collective issues shall be balanced RALPS

MORECO Common Declaration Smart locations and alternative means of transport to the car for a better liveability …. . Given the findings of the project, the partners have defined the following four strategic priorities: • Foster projects around existing and future public transport hubs • Provide households with tools in order to rationalise their residential choices with regard to the residence/mobility costs • Reduce commuting by car and encourage the use of collective means of transport • Continue striving to objectively weigh up the respective costs of urban sprawl and rebuilding inner city sites or local authorities These priorities for action will be backed up and made sustainable by the creation of a network in which the MORECO partners will continue exchanging experiences and good practices. … RALPS SIR
