Mindjog • Write a sentence about the plot of A Doll’s House. • Label the subject (S), verb (V), and direct object (DO).

Indirect Object • • Noun or pronoun In the predicate of the sentence Comes before the direct object Tells whom or for whom

Example The student gave the teacher an apple. • What is the indirect object?

Answer

Example The family offered anyone with information a reward. What is the… • Subject? • Verb? • Indirect object? • Direct object?

Answer S V IO The family offered anyone with DO information a reward.

Hints • Only label the noun or pronoun • Do not label the modifiers • Sentence pattern S-V-IO-DO

Object Complement • A noun or adjective • In the predicate of the sentence • Identifies or explains the direct object

Example I named my guinea pig Squeaky. What is the object complement?

Answer • I? – No!- that’s the subject • Named? – No!- that’s the verb • Guinea pig? – No!- that’s the direct object • Squeaky? – YES! That’s the object complement

Example S V DO OC We elected you leader of the class.
