Energy Efficiency
Energy Efficiency & Climate Change Energy Efficiency: Energy efficiency refers to how effectively energy is being used, for example; how long a PC can be operated with a given amount of energy. Energy efficiency is about designing IT products and services that increase productivity, reducing lifetime consumption of electricity, lowering costs to owners and lowering impact on the environment. • To produce electricity we burn fossil fuels and emit carbon dioxide - a leading cause of global climate change. • Using energy efficient products enables you to play a part in addressing climate change and most importantly… save your customer money!
Why is Energy efficiency Important? Lighting & office equipment consume up to 76% of office building electricity driving cost into their operating model Companies are being held accountable for their environmental footprint and are implementing long term goals for energy reduction Low efficiency products can have other adverse effects on the customer’s environment, such as air conditioning and noise pollution Customer pain points Some corporate and government entities are being mandated to use high efficiency products through pressure from external agenciesand government bodies
HP’s approach to energy innovation Design energyefficient products Energy efficient Improve energy efficiency of customer operations Rethink energy use to transform society Energy effective
What is ENERGY STAR? Introduced in 1992 by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Voluntary labeling program that covers electronics both in the consumer and commercial areas Only manufacturers and retailers whose products meet the Energy Star criteria can label their products with this symbol Program is accepted internationally (i. e. valid in Canada) Requirements vary from one category to another, but typically an Energy Star model must be from 10 to 50% more efficient than a conventional model Designed to deliver technical information and identify and promote energy-efficient products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions Revised periodically to include more stringent criteria, driving change in the marketplace, E-STAR 5. 0 coming in July 2009
Business Desktop Innovations ENERGY EFFICIENCY Meets or exceeds global environmental standards − Available in ENERGY STAR® compliant configurations − Systems that meet Energy Star are also EPEAT Gold certified − HP Business PCs have certification for the following Asia Pacific eco-labels: Taiwan Green Mark, Korea Eco-label, Japan PC Green Label, CECP energy from China Energy efficiency − HP BIOS efficiency settings − 80% efficient power supplies available on all 5000 and 7000 series products − 85% / 87% Efficient Power Supplies will be available on dc 7900 for most BTO models − Low-power chipset and energy efficient processors − Advanced thermal design − S 3 sleep state set enabled at factory − Client level and remote power management options 12 BUILT FOR EFFICIENCY
Business Desktop Innovations BUILT FOR EFFICIENCY Client -side and Remote Power Management • HP Power Manager − Client based power management application − Real time reporting of savings • Verdiem − Enterprise focused remote client power management − Client included as part of HP Power Manager − Separate license required from Verdiem • Efficiencies with Out of Band Management − Technologies like Intel v. Pro and DASH help reduce energy consumption 13 13

Changing the conversation BUILT FOR EFFICIENCY Customer concern Answer (Desktops only) 1. We are in the early stages looking for cost savings from reduction of energy consumption 80 PLUS power supply configurable in any 7000 and 5000 Series SKU 2. We have the basics but are looking for a solution to increase regulatory compliance and efficiency ENERGY STAR® 4. 0 qualified SKUs 3. Its been a part of our DNA for a while. We are now ready to expand to comprehensive energy efficient product EPEAT™ Gold (first to Market with rp 5700; NOW available on 7000 and 5000 Series) 4. Looking for a solution that goes beyond ENERGY STAR and helps me manage my energy policy and quantify savings? Verdiem Surveyor power management software solution
HP Business Notebook PCs and the environment Energy efficiency • • • ENERGY STAR® Qualified for high energy efficiency on most 2008 HP Business Notebook PCs HP Illumi-Lite LED displays are highly-efficient boosting battery run time by up to 90 minutes Power Management for efficient performance can help lower energy costs Ambient Light Sensor dims your display in low light conditions reducing power consumption HP Smart AC Adapters have a built-in sensor that adjust to the optimal power rating for use with various models. Solid State Drives (SSD) options are quieter, cooler, and use 50% less power than HDD yielding 5% longer run times
HP Workstation Energy Efficiency Highlights • 80 PLUS Power Supplies with PFC >0. 90 — Standard • Energy-saving power management settings —Standard • The xw 4550 Workstation is a market leader with nearly all configurations meeting ENERGY STAR® requirements • ENERGY STAR configurations available on all new platforms
HP Thin client Energy Efficiency High Efficiency HP delivers energy efficient products, solutions, & services • Thin Clients offer up to 80 percent power savings over traditional desktop PCs with similar capabilities • Additionally, the power-efficient thin clients also need less air-conditioning • With no moving parts, thin clients require only low wattage power supplies and have one-fourth the failure rate of equivalent desktops meaning much longer lifecycles • Power supplies for HP thin clients meet all the requirements for ENERGY STAR® • Desk-side visits are significantly reduced saving time, money and potentially mileage 18
Recycling 19
Why is recycling important? Companies are being held accountable for their impact on the environment Corporate responsibility is beginning to dictate procurement practices Limited global resources require reuse and recycling to sustain production Many IT companies are looking to outsource recycling and end of life management and transition services 20 Customer pain points Responsibility and audit extends to OEM suppliers, regardless of location
Recycling for business PCs BUILT FOR EFFICIENCY 90% Designed for recycling Product reuse and recycling 21 • Products meet Ro. HS compliance • Modular and tool-less designs • Use molded-in colors and finishes • Reduce number and types of materials • Mark plastic parts • WEEE compliant • Trade-in Program • Leasing • Remarketing/refurbishing services • Recycling services and support • Donation of older technology • Environmentally responsible disposal
HP Business Notebook PCs and the environment Product reuse & recycling • • • Over 90% of an HP Business Notebook PC (by weight) is recyclable or recoverable (no landfill) as per WEEE definition Innovative and convenient reuse and recycling programs include lease and trade -in programs Magnesium enclosures are easier to recycle Designed to be recycled –materials get reused rather than land-filled HP Disk Sanitizer permanently removes all sensitive information stored in the hard drive making it possible to reuse or donate older computers when ready for reuse/disposal
Substances and Material 23
HP Environmental Scorecard - EPEAT™ • Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT™) is an independent procurement tool to help to selectronic hardware based on environmental criteria • All HP Workstations currently qualify for EPEAT Gold as of April 1, 2008 • All 5000 and 7000 series business desktops qualify for EPEAT Gold when configured with Energy Star EPEAT measures computers in eight environmental categories Reduction/elimination of environmentally sensitive materials Energy conservation Materials selection End of life management Design for end of life Packaging Product longevity/life cycle extension Corporate performance Three levels of qualification Meets all 23 required criteria plus at least 50% of the plus at least 75% of the optional criteria
