Schedule » Transport box = complete » Welding jigs = complete » Heat treatment jig (not required) » Shaft metrology methodology defined – Talyrond 500 mm column delivered and fitted yesterday (7/5/09) 6

MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » Centreless grind methodology MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » Centreless grind methodology defined – Issue with single piece that material was bent, no time to exchange or purchase elsewhere, correcting bends in-house » DLC set-up methodology – Need to contact Andy Fox again. . . » Welding and heat treatment methodology defined – All RFS placed through OM, contracts being set-up with Culham STG now 7

MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » Vane – RFS MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » Vane – RFS placed 17/04/09, but order only placed Tuesday this week! excuses made. . . new delivery 15/05/09 » Shaft components – Extra pieces required, will go to outside manufacture not to put strain on ‘internal’ manufacture » Magnet inspection = complete » Shaft manufacture – Continuing materials supply problems (bent, burnt, late companies folding) – More known about processes – New schedule (see next slide) 8

MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » Core welding trial MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » Core welding trial complete – John Barrie @ RAL ‘signed up’ to do welds after great test piece produced » Stator components – All components (vacuum tube & collar, can & washers) expected to be delivered to Sheffield by 18 th, vacuum tube & collar probably couple of days earlier » Bearings – Wire cutting in progress expected 11/05/09 – Drawings to be finalised based on shaft geometry then order reamer while final geometry created » Insulation and grounding for stator complete – To be done 10

MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » The bottom line. MICE Target Mechanical Design l Status of Target ref. Schedule » The bottom line. . . – Currently 2 piece shaft manufacture expected to be running a week late – Single piece shaft manufacture running on time (just) – All other manufacture appears to be progressing well – Do have some other work to do on peripheral components, expect all to be sorted by end of May (for June deliveries) 11
