National Picture • 20 million incidents; 20% MH linked = 4 million • Bradley Report 2009 – Undiagnosed MH & LD in CJS & HMP • Vulnerable victims (physical, sexual & financal abuse) • Deaths in custody – 41 (past 3 yrs) 21 had MH issues • S. 136 MHA detentions: 60, 000 hrs (cells) & 62, 000 hrs (health based Po. S)
Local Picture • • • Year-on-year decrease in s. 136 to cells 78% male, 22% female 82% due to attempt suicide & self-harm 74% require restraint 30% sectioned
What are we doing about it? • • • Concordat (September 2014) Internal development plan & external Concordat action plan Representation at meetings Strategic objective: Safeguarding Strategic assessment of MH demand
What are we doing about it? • • • Performance framework – MHMF 1 Review of multi-agency protocols Compass House custody suite IAMG – SWASFT & BTP now members VCS involvement e. g. SOBBS traumatic bereavement protocol
