What are the goals of the CAPP Project? • Migrate On-Course Programs to CAPP • Define SUNY Program Codes as Banner Program Codes • Define advising sequence as concentrations • Enable the continuation of effective student advising • Support Self-Service CAPP Monroe Community College 3
History of the Program Codes in Plus • History of the Program Codes in Plus – Formula: College, Degree, Program i. e. Liberal Arts – General Studies = LA AS Visual Communications = LA AAS Business Administration = BH AS Office Technology = WD AAS Criminal Justice = DC AAS Fire Protection = PS AAS LA 04 VC 02 BU 01 BT 08 PS 04 FR 01 • • Program codes and titles have changed, i. e. FS 01 is now HS – Food Service is now Hospitality Management – Food Service Administration Sequence • Task: Pre-039 legacies are FS 01; 039 and beyond are HS. How do we bring these both into CAPP and maintain advisement? Monroe Community College 4
How are the Program Codes Used in On-Course? In On-Course: • Program codes are used to define the requirements for a degree program • The requirements define the various subject areas • Requirements within the subject areas define the courses or sequences within each area • Requirements within the subject areas also define the number of credits within each area, as well as requirement notes Monroe Community College 5
How are the Program Codes Used in Banner? In Banner: • Program code tells the rest of the system for whom the program is intended: student level, course level, campus, college, degree • Ties to majors, minors and concentrations • Curriculum checking ensures the fields describing academic programs are entered in with the correct combinations • Curriculum rules are link between academic programs and program requirements • Links requirements, student and course attributes to program Monroe Community College 6

How are On-Course and CAPP the same? • Both include Program Codes • Both track course requirements • Both track completed courses and what is needed to complete requirements Monroe Community College 8
How do On-Course and CAPP differ? • On-Course: – build from top to bottom for each program • CAPP: – Series of pointers to Program, Area and Group requirement libraries; can re-use areas and groups – Can use specific course numbers, number ranges, subject codes or course attributes – Can define course areas that can be used for more than one degree program. Will Program Codes have to be changed? • SUNY Codes will stay the same • Program/Degree codes will be shorter • Specific advisement sequences will be displayed in concentration • Notify current students of program title changes • Same SUNY program, same advisement track; different ways to set them up, maintain them, attach them to the student and track completion Monroe Community College 11
What do I need to do to get ready for CAPP? • Identify active program codes • Prioritize programs according to number of active students in each program • Select those discontinued programs to be built in CAPP • Complete BPA’s for existing degree audit procedures Monroe Community College 12
