Erasmus Programme in numbers 1. 1987: the programme starts: • a total of 4000 student mobilities in Europe during the first year • Nowadays 200000/ year in the whole of Europe • Next year the programme will reach 3 000 student mobilities in total 2 erasmus. bme. hu
Erasmus programme in numbers 2. 1997 : Hungary joins the Programme • 35000 students benefited so far in Hungary (800 in 1998 and 4200 in 2010) • On average in Hungary the number of incoming students is lower than the outgoing (250 in 1998 and 2700 in 2010) While at BME the incoming and outgoing flow became BALANCED 3 erasmus. bme. hu

Erasmus student mobility for placements • Until 2008 EU Leonardo da Vinci Programme supported mobilities for practical training of university students • From 2008 Erasmus Programme is extended and includes academic and practical training mobilities of students in higher education • BME was active in the Leonardo Programme as well, winning more than 1000 EURO EU support for traineeships of BME students until 2008. 8 erasmus. bme. hu

FINAL NOTE • Erasmus is a great and highly successful European program • All other non-European bilateral or governmental exchange programmes have the same added value • For EU institutions Erasmus is an excellent base for further worldwide cooperation. • Erasmus Mundus is such an extension But there are non-European examples too: E. g. : Science Without Border is part of the Brazilian government's larger initiative to grant 100, 000 scholarships for the best students from Brazil to study abroad at the world’s best universities. 16 erasmus. bme. hu
