May 2013 Updates: Sharing games, Mother’s Day and “Story” exhibition opens
Hahgoot reads really fast – she finished two whole books in the time it took Alma to finish her magnetic story book game! The passion for reading runs deep in our family. . .
In an attempt to keep the Floortime games fresh, I am always looking for new props. In Woollies I found these great (and heavy!) candy shaped pillows, that were a great addition to our OT related games.
The new pillows not only were good for imaginative play, they were also great heavy work and a new way to get Hahgoot to throw and catch.
More sensory fun: Playing a game of “feel and guess”
The least fun part of the day is pack-away at the end of the day. Most nights this turns into a bitter battlefield with screaming and crying (and that’s just the parents. . . ) so every time I try to be creative to get some cooperation, like picking up toys using a dinosaur or stickers.
Mother’s Day was celebrated in style: I got a (rare) sleep in while Barak drove out to the nearby shopping centre with the girls to buy fresh pastries and chocolate milk in boxes (a rare treat in our house). The girls chose a balloon and great presents: a shall from Barak, an organizer from Alma, a “super mum” key chain with flashlight from Hahgoot and matching bracelets from the girls (all very thoughtful!)
Alma worked hard on a card at day care for me (top and right) and a very fitting card with dad.
Hahgoot made a card at school (bottom left), one with dad (right) and another one, for good measure. . .
The great new Story exhibition has opened at the Lewers Learning Centre and I saw it just before the opening with Alma, as I will be working in it extensively in the next few months as a Gallery Educator.
The interactive gallery spaces include great artworks alongside LEGO, dress ups and all kinds of small activities (accompanied by a great $2 kit!) There has been a lot of interest from schools and the general public, which is fantastic.
In our next presentation: The celebration of Shavuot, and more!
