Inspiration “So then, there were fourteen generations from Abraham to David, and fourteen from David to the exile in Babylon, and fourteen from then to the birth of the Messiah. ” (Matthew 1: 17 – GN) “From David to the time when the people of Israel were taken into exile in Babylon, the following ancestors are listed: David, Solomon (his mother was the woman who had been Uriah's wife), Rehoboam, Abijah, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amon, Josiah, and Jehoiachin and his brothers. ” (Matthew 1: 6 -11 – GN) “Jehoram, Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah, Uzziah, Jotham…” (1 Chronicles 3: 11 – GN)

Inspiration Joseph and Mary flee with Jesus to Egypt: ◦ “This was done to make come true what the Lord had said through the prophet, ‘I called my Son out of Egypt. ’” (Matthew 2: 15 – GN) “The LORD says, ‘When Israel was a child, I loved him and called him out of Egypt as my son. But the more I called to him, the more he turned away from me. My people sacrificed to Baal; they burned incense to idols. ” (Hosea 11: 1, 2 – GN)

Inspiration “As a result, the punishment for the murder of all innocent people will fall on you, from the murder of innocent Abel to the murder of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the Temple and the altar. ” (Matthew 23: 35 – GN) “The king (Joash) forgot about the loyal service that Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had given him, and he had Zechariah killed. As Zechariah was dying, he called out, ‘May the LORD see what you are doing and punish you!’” (2 Chronicles 24: 22 – GN)

Inspiration “Then what the prophet Jeremiah had said came true: ‘They took the thirty silver coins, the amount the people of Israel had agreed to pay for him, and used the money to buy the potter's field, as the Lord had commanded me. ’” (Matthew 27: 9 – GN) Zechariah 11: 13

“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!” (Matthew 5: 3 – GNB) “Happy are you poor; the Kingdom of God is yours!” (Luke 6: 21 – GNB)

Jesus calms a storm “When Jesus came to the territory of Gadara (Gerasa) on the other side of the lake, he was met by two men who came out of the burial caves there. These men had demons in them and were so fierce that no one dared travel on that road. ” (Matthew 8: 28 GNB) Jesus calms a storm “Jesus and his disciples sailed on over to the territory of Gerasa, which is across the lake from Galilee. As Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a man from the town who had demons in him. For a long time this man had gone without clothes and would not stay at home, but spent his time in the burial caves. ” (Luke 8: 26 -27 GNB)

Jesus speaks a third time about his death (Matthew 20: 17 -19) “Then the wife of Zebedee came to Jesus with her two sons, bowed before him, and asked him for a favor. ‘What do you want? ’ Jesus asked her. She answered, ‘Promise me that these two sons of mine will sit at your right and your left when you are King. ’” (Matthew 20: 20 -21 GNB)

Jesus speaks a third time about his death (Mark 10: 32 -34) “Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus. ‘Teacher, ’ they said, ‘there is something we want you to do for us. ’ ‘What is it? ’ Jesus asked them. They answered, ‘When you sit on your throne in your glorious Kingdom, we want you to let us sit with you, one at your right and one at your left. ’” (Mark 10: 35 -37 GNB)

Jesus speaks a 3 rd time about his death (Matthew vs. Mark) Request to sit at the right hand (Matthew vs. Mark) “…like the Son of Man, who did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life to redeem many people. ” (Matthew 20: 28 GNB) “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people. ” (Mark 10: 45 GNB)

“As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd was following. Two blind men who were sitting by the road heard that Jesus was passing by, so they began to shout, "Son of David! Have mercy on us, sir!" The crowd scolded them and told them to be quiet. But they shouted even more loudly, ‘Son of David! Have mercy on us, sir!’” (Matthew 20: 29 -31 GNB)

“They came to Jericho, and as Jesus was leaving with his disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was sitting by the road. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, ‘Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!’ Many of the people scolded him and told him to be quiet. But he shouted even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’” (Mark 10: 46 -48 GNB)

“Inspiration: Inspired Pen or Inspired Men? ”

“All Scripture is inspired by God…” (2 Timothy 3: 16)

“I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius. No one can say, then, that you were baptized as my disciples. (Oh yes, I also baptized Stephanas and his family; but I can’t remember whether I baptized anyone else. )” (1 Corinthians 1: 14 -16)

“I don't know of anything else the Lord said about marriage. All I can do is to give you my own advice. ” “Now concerning what you wrote about unmarried people: I do not have a command from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is worthy of trust. ” “That is my opinion, and I think that I too have God’s Spirit. ” (1 Corinthians 7: 12, 25, 40)

“There is not always perfect order or apparent unity in the Scriptures. The miracles of Christ are not given in exact order, but are given just as the circumstances occurred, which called for this divine revealing of the power of Christ.

The Bible is not given to us in grand superhuman language. Jesus, in order to reach man where he is, took humanity. The Bible must be given in the language of men. Everything that is human is imperfect. ” {1 SM 20. 2}

“The Bible is written by inspired men, but it is not God’s mode of thought and expression. It is that of humanity. God, as a writer, is not represented. Men will often say such an expression is not like God. But God has not put Himself in words, in logic, in rhetoric, on trial in the Bible. The writers of the Bible were God’s penmen, not His pen. ” {1 SM 21. 1}

“It is not the words of the Bible that are inspired, but the men that were inspired. Inspiration acts not on the man’s words or his expressions but on the man himself, who, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, is imbued with thoughts. But the words receive the impress of the individual mind. The divine mind is diffused. The divine mind and will is combined with the human mind and will; thus the utterances of the man are the word of God. ” {1 SM 21. 2}

“In the Bible we have in clear lines the revelation of God’s character, of His dealings with men, and the great work of redemption. ” (ST, 1906) [The Bible] “is the book that unfolds the character of God. ” (ST, 1898)

“You search the scriptures because you think in them you have eternal life, but these are the scriptures that speak of me. ” (Matthew 5: 39)

“Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them” (Matthew 5: 1) “When Jesus had come down from the hill with the apostles, he stood on a level place with a large number of his disciples. A large crowd of people was there from all over Judea and from Jerusalem and from the coast cities of Tyre and Sidon. ” (Luke 6: 17)

Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God! Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children! Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! Happy are you when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil lies against you because you are my followers. ’” (Matthew 5: 1 -11)

“As the apostles left the Council, they were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer disgrace for the sake of Jesus. ” (Acts 5: 41 – GN)

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. “Don’t suppose that I came to do away with the Law and the Prophets. I did not come to do away with them, but to give them their full meaning. ” (Matthew 5: 17 – CEV) “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. ” (Matthew 5: 18) “I tell you, then, that you will be able to enter the Kingdom of heaven only if you are more faithful than the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees in doing what God requires. ” (Matthew 5: 20 – GN)

“You’re familiar with the command to the ancients, ‘Do not murder. ’ I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. ” (Matthew 5: 21, 22 – The Message) “You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery. ' But now I tell you: anyone who looks at a woman and wants to possess her is guilty of committing adultery with her in his heart. ” (Matthew 5: 27 -28 – GN)

“It was also said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a written notice of divorce. ’ But now I tell you: if a man divorces his wife for any cause other than her unfaithfulness, then he is guilty of making her commit adultery if she marries again; and the man who marries her commits adultery also. ’” (Matthew 5: 31 -32)

“Some Pharisees came and tried to trap Him with this question: ‘Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason? ’ ‘Haven’t you read the Scriptures? ’ Jesus replied. ‘They record that from the beginning 'God made them male and female. ' And He said, 'This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. ' Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together. ’ ‘Then why did Moses say in the law that a man could give his wife a written notice of divorce and send her away? ’ they asked. Jesus replied, ‘Moses permitted divorce only as a concession to your hard hearts, but it was not what God had originally intended. ’” (Matthew 19: 3 -8 NLT)

“You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. ' But now I tell you: do not take revenge on someone who wrongs you. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, let him slap your left cheek too. And if someone takes you to court to sue you for your shirt, let him have your coat as well. And if one of the occupation troops forces you to carry his pack one mile, carry it two miles. When someone asks you for something, give it to him; when someone wants to borrow something, lend it to him. ” (Matthew 5: 38 -42 – GN)

“You have heard that it was said, 'Love your friends, hate your enemies. ' But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may become the children of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil. Why should God reward you if you love only the people who love you? Even the tax collectors do that! And if you speak only to your friends, have you done anything out of the ordinary? Even the pagans do that! You must be perfect---just as your Father in heaven is perfect. ” (Matthew 5: 43 -48 – GN)

“In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You're kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you. ” (Matthew 5: 48 – MSG)

“Make certain you do not perform your religious duties in public so that people will see what you do…So when you give something to a needy person, do not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. But when you help a needy person, do it in such a way that even your closest friend will not know about it. Then it will be a private matter. ” (Matthew 6: 14 – GN)

“When Jesus finished saying these things, the crowd was amazed at the way he taught. He wasn’t like the teachers of the Law; instead, he taught with authority. ” (Matthew 7: 28 -29 – GN)

“This is how the judgment works: the light has come into the world, but people love the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds are evil. Those who do evil things hate the light and will not come to the light, because they do not want their evil deeds to be shown up. ” (John 3: 19 -20)
