• Margaret Thatcher went down in history as the first woman Prime Minister in Europe. Thus, there were in this position, she longer than any other politicians in the 20 th century. At the next elections in 1979, the conservatives won a landslide victory and Margaret became Prime Minister, the first woman to hold this post in the UK.
• The main objectives of the new Prime Minister in the post were the elimination of unemployment, privatization of stateowned companies, reduced the influence of trade unions. Initially Margaret enjoyed great popularity among the population. However, financial instability and rising unemployment, has a negative impact on the image of Margaret Thatcher. • However, this did not prevent her to win the elections of 1983, and to embark on a second term. During this period, Margaret Thatcher managed to stabilize the economy, and in 1987, she was re-elected for a third term.
