TNVL Chapter Overview The Tennessee Valley Chapter has been active for over 30 years. TNVL has a proud tradition of Gold and Platinum Awards from the Corporate office. Now is an exciting time for our chapter as operations and manufacturing continue to grow in the Tennessee Valley area. Recent Events • • • Toured the Champion paper company in Decatur. Toured the Target Distribution Center in Decatur Partnered with ADTRAN to host our CPIM classes, and at one time had over 20 ADTRAN students in a class. Future Events (projects we’re working on for our members!) • • • Tour of the Toyota Engine Plant in Huntsville Tour of the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, KY, (a 2. 5 hr drive) Factory Tour is free, museum tour costs about $20 but is worth it! Excellent lesson in partnering with suppliers (Du. Pont Paint) and connecting with customers (custom delivery presentation of your corvette). Tour Jack Daniels distilling operations in Lynchburg, TN (free), Afterwards a stroll in the Lynchburg square for shopping. Tour of the Prichard’s Rum distillery in Kelso, TN (free). Afterwards lunch at The Restaurant, a block away. Touring the Mercedes SUV factory in Tuscaloosa. I think it is free. About a 3 hour drive, and we can maybe tour the Alabama campus, and Bryant Denny Stadium. Tour of the Dam in Florence (2 hour drive) to see hydro-electric power operations, and how some of our power is created. Tour of a TVA facility Tour of an Aerospace facility in Huntsville Partnering with other closely aligned organizations on tours, dinner meetings, building bridges and relationships: ISM, ASQ, SOLE, Athens State University Tennessee Valley Chapter
2009 Segmentation Study Summary of Major Findings from Member and Customer Segmentation Survey March 2009 The survey was performed under the direction of the Voice of the Customer Committee. – Broad, strategic sampling of members and customers to reveal important segmentation insights – conducted with help of Element Research. – Survey contained 28 questions and ran February 3 - 24, 2009 – 17, 368 members randomly selected from APICS’ database received survey invitation via email. 1, 823 members completed the survey – 5, 765 randomly selected non-member customers from APICS database – specifically customers who had purchased within the last 12 months -- received the survey. 307 non-members completed the survey Tennessee Valley Chapter
2009 Segmentation Study Defining Our Members and Customers-- Who Are They? What Attributes Help Identify Them? – Mostly men, aged 30 or older. Women make up a larger percentage of new members. – Most members are very experienced, with more than ten years in their fields. – 30% are Managers, the largest group in a somewhat fragmented universe. Scheduler 10%, Specialist and Buyer are 8%. – IN THE SURVEY almost ½ of all respondents were APICS-certified. In our MEMBER DATABASE, about 30% are certified. . Tennessee Valley Chapter
Why Members Join APICS… Member Needs – Analysis (2007) Membership • Very influential factors in member’s decision to join APICS were: APICS certification programs (62. 2%), APICS education (46. 3%), and professional recognition (33. 2%). • The most important factors in the member’s decision to continue APICS membership is: continuing education (74. 9%), followed by networking (58. 5%), and support from employer (51%). • 84. 8% of respondents agree or strongly agree that they value their APICS membership. • 66. 2% agree or strongly agree that APICS membership improves their performance at work. 63. 7% agree or strongly agree that APICS membership helps them advance in their careers. • The company pays for membership for more than 57% of respondents. Why APICS Members Renew… Member Needs – Analysis (2007) Certification • 82. 4% of respondents indicate that it is important or very important to be APICS certified. • Respondents said that APICS certification provides advancement opportunities in the forms of: recognition (92. 7%), promotion (15. 4%), raise (10. 5%), or bonus for completion (4. 9%). Products and Services • 73. 1% indicated the APICS Dictionary is important or very important, and 75. 4% were satisfied or very satisfied. • 55. 6% indicated APICS magazine was important or very important, and 55. 9% were satisfied or very satisfied. • APICS electronic newsletters were rated as important or very important by 36. 9% of the respondents.
