Magic vocabulary
Magic - /ˈmædʒɪk/ - secret power that some people believe can make impossible things happen by saying special words or doing special actions Examples: 1) When people cannot explain things with a science, they say that it was magic. 2) The door suddenly disappered as if by magic.
Wizard - /ˈwɪzəd/ - a man who has magic powers Example: 1) Harry Potter is a wizard. 2) The London Bridge was destroyed by a wizard who was practicing magic.
Pixie - /ˈpɪksi/ - a magic creature like a tiny person with pointed ears and who can do magic Examples: 1) Elves, wizards, witches and pixies have magic powers. 2) Pixies are always up to some mischief.
Witch - /wɪtʃ/ - a woman who has evil magic powers. Examples: 1) The witch wears black pointed hat and flies on the broomstick. 2) The witches use black magic.
Spell - /spel/ - words which are believed to have magic powers and needed to say to make something happen. Examples: 1) To turn this frog into a prince you have to say a magic spell. 2) The wizard said a spell.
Invisibility cloak - /ɪnˌvɪzəˈbɪləti kləʊk/ a coat without sleeves which fastens on the neck and not being able to be seen. Examples: 1) If we want to get into the forbidden room, we have to put on an invisibility cloak. 2) I would like to have an invisibility cloak to enter different places.
Wand - /wɒnd/ - a thin stick which is used for doing magic Examples: 1) The wizard waved his wand the door opened. 2) I want to clean the house by a wave of a wand.
Magic carpet - / ˌmædʒɪk ˈkɑːpɪt/ - a carpet which can fly and carry people. Examples: 1) Aladdin had a magic carpet. 2) A boy was riding a magic carpet.
Jinx - /dʒɪŋks/- to bring bad luck in a mysterious way. Examples: 1) I never tell my future plans not to jinx anything. 2) There seems to be a jinx on that pretty girl, nobody wants to get marry to her.
Petrify - /ˈpetrɪfaɪ/ - to turn something into a substance like stone Examples: 1) Hermione was petrified so she looked a stone. 2) A peculiar local industry is the manufacture of so-called "petrified" birds' nests, plants, and other objects.
