M. Bonesini TOF plans for July BTF INFN Milano testbeam M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 1
Present design of TOF 0 From D. Adams & T. Roberts simulations a 40 x 40 cm 2 active area and 4 cm segmentation BC-420 scintillator bars 40 x 4 x 2. 5 cm 3 delivered by Bicron (emission peak ~390 nm) lightguides UVT Repsol or BC 800 plexiglas M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 2
Prototype mechanics • • • TOF 0 counters CAD design ready scintillators delivered (Bicron BC-420) + low cost Ukrainian UPS-95 F lightguides with REPSOL Glass plexiglas + in-house machining M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 3
The BTF testbeam Energy range 25 -750 Me. V e-/e+ Max rep rate 50 Hz Pulse duration 10 ns Current/pulse 1 -1010 particles Testbeam 12 -20 July (setting up during 7 -11 July P 326 testbeam) We will try to have our DAQ based on CAEN V 2718 (not use default BTF one, Labview based) We can test TOF resolutions, not rate effects (for this we can do only lab tests with our laser system) M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 4
What we plan to test in BTF, as regards TOF FEE MICE baseline-1 solution: V 1290 TDC + CF discriminator (Mb-1) MICE baseline-2 solution: Harp splitter + V 1290 TDC + QADC + L. E. discriminator. For the time being QADC will be V 792, waiting for new CAEN QADC based on V 1724, to be delivered end of this year (Mb-2) M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 5
What is needed for TOF at BTF TOF 0 prototypes equipped with R 4998 PMTS – ready additional counters to be tested ( diff scintillator, lengths, fine mesh PMTs): useful for TOF 1/2 – ready Finger counters to define precisely beam impact point available from MEG tests - requested HV/signal cables, splitters, NIM discriminators, VME modules – to be checked, but available CAEN VME CF discriminators – to be requested DAQ (JS) – ready, to be cloned in Milano monitoring (JS) – ready pre-test with cosmics to debug full size counters: in preparation in Milano M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 6
TOF testbeam targets: TOF 0 with simple MCA n Test time resolution at various positions with simple particle TOF 0 with full DAQ n n n Test time resolution at various positions with single particles Test time resolution with particle pile-up Make comparisons with TDC+CF discriminators and TDC+QADC measurements TOF 1/2 with full DAQ n n n Test time resolution with cheaper UPS-95 F counters Test time resolution with bigger detectors Test time resolution with fine-mesh 1”, 1. 5” PMTs M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 7
Conclusions up to now for TOF 0 prototypes we are in schedule for BTF testbeam Another testbeam (especially for calo) will be needed in September/October: think also to it only problem organization: avoid to have ~20 people in July and maybe ~0 in forthcoming September/October tests -> proposal: to have Ludovico as BTF MICE testbeam coordinator to handle matters, also acting towards LNF management M. Bonesini - PC 194 - 19 -05 -06 8
