MERIT Response (Medical Emergency Response Incident Teams) • Dedicated medical support for major incidents • Described in latest national guidance for major incidents • Currently doesn’t exist in London – An onerous system falling to each hospital – Supported by a voluntary system. • Proposal for a commissioned system designed around the response on the 7 th July 2005 bombings – Builds on local expertise of the EMS teams – Uses economies of scale for recruitment, training, exercising, equipping etc – Delivers accurate levels of triage – Helps deliver the best survival rates for critical patient groups
