Gladstone & Smart Cards Gladstone have been supplying smartcards for over 15 years Legacy of Mifare 1 K & SLE 4432 (phased out) Primarily for data transfer (e. g. customer data transfer) Recognition / swipe only functionality (e. g. Dundee / Chester Le Street) The National Entitlement Card schemes (Customer First, London Connects etc) will combine these two approaches to maximise functionality of the smartcard within leisure

Smartcard Reader Integration

Current Mifare 1 K Solution We currently use 6 sectors (5 Data and 1 Directory) Data is stored in a proprietary format using any available sectors We store both Personal Details and Leisure Data on the card MRM. plus 2 reads and writes all these details upon request (F 7&F 8) Swipe recognition is enabled using the serial number of the chip Readers are embedded with firmware to perform these functions

Card & Reader Requirements Identify next generation 4 K Cards, as well as legacy 1 K card Retain existing functionality for legacy Gladstone format cards Use 16 Digit NEC / APACS number as Card ID (swipe recognition) Read and translate personal details from London Connects card to MRM. plus 2 Create default values when reading from non-leisure cards Read & write leisure data (only) to pre-determined sectors Develop Active X Control(s) to facilitate the above and help future proof readers against any new card technologies

Multiple requirements – The Issues ! Each project requires slightly different requirements Need to manage clients during migration phases Need to accommodate requirements of clients wishing to retain legacy functionality and also recognise national / regional card schemes. Need to introduce complex rules to card recognition process Need to minimise the disruption to clients i. e. Upgrades and replacements of hardware etc. Ro. HS and DTI legislation on use of lead based components Not enough space to accommodate complex algorithms on reader firmware. Need to protect data and interests of third party contractors (i. e. Leisure management contractors)

Benefits of London Connects ‘Active X’ Allows all future enhancements to be managed out with reader and MRM. plus 2 Enables modifications (Active X) to be ‘retro-fitted’ without need to upgrade MRM. plus 2. No need to upgrade Mifare readers to accommodate minor structure changes. (Note: subject to initial reader upgrade. ) Minimises disruption to front end application Minimises deployment and implementation requirements and costs for future modifications. Enables Gladstone to react more effectively to changes in requirements.

Implementation New Readers will be required Generic Firmware compatible with modified Active X control No lead based components (Ro. HS & DTI requirement) Readers will require installation on site at each terminal In most cases this should be ‘plug and play’ (current smart card clients) Smart Card Module invoked in MRM. Plus 2 (new clients) London Connects Active X module to be installed on central server / application server. Appropriate package of technical, training, configuration and project management services will be required. These are specific to each client.

London Connects Requirements

Centralised reporting for London Connects wish to report on usage of cards across all London Boroughs Each Borough will have to be able to provide detailed reports Each Borough / contractor may be reluctant to share commercially sensitive data No two Boroughs currently report in the same way. Is an attendance based on swipe or purchase of an activity?

Plus 2 – Facilitating generic reporting Once London Connects define the generic reporting requirements all Boroughs with Plus 2 can be provided with the tailored reporting suite to ensure all report on same criteria. Help monitor and meet CPA targets Installed as a simple addition to their existing reporting suite Can be emailed on a periodical basis to London Connects May be automated depending on customer network Could be deposited in central location without site involvement in the future.
