Summary • What’s Infoscience • Infoscience : why ? • Infoscience : how ?
What is Infoscience • Infoscience is a database of the publications, research reports, Ph. D Theses, Ms Theses, semester works, lectures, etc. , of the Facultés, Laboratories and Researchers at the EPFL. • Developed at EPFL and CERN.
Why • Increase the visibility of your work • Facilitate the management of the publications list
One example • Deciding Boolean Algebra with Presburger Arithmetic • Viktor Kuncak and Hai Huu Nguyen and Martin Rinard • Journal of Automated Reasoning Volume 36, Number 3 / avril 2006
Journal of automated reasoning • Need a license to buy this commercial journal (from Springer). • Licenses are very expensive : 2 million swiss francs pro year for all the journals for the whole EPFL
Open access • Open access (OA) is immediate, free and unrestricted online access to digital scholarly material[2], primarily peerreviewed research articles in journals. OA was made possible by the advent of the Internet.
How to participate in Open Access • Golden road : Publish in a full open access journal : Plos Biology or make your article open access on the website of the publisher (need to pay a fee) • Green road : use what your publisher allows you to do : http: //www. sherpa. ac. uk/romeo. php
Why doing it • Give access to your work to the maximum number of persons • Increase the use of your work (more citations) • Give access to your work earlier (before the publication process)

IEEE Data Engineering Bulletin 28(4) pp. 39 -47. http: //eprints. ecs. soton. ac. uk/11688/ => OA articles have consistently more citations, the advantage varying from 25%250% by discipline and year

Other reasons • Your dean asks you to do it (for example, you need to use Infoscience for I&C technical reports) • FNS : For Swiss National Science Foundation funded projects, you need to do it • Harvesting
Practical use • • A unique interface A memory of the lab Easy export, sort, … Retrieve the data on various pages – Lab's page – People page – Faculty page
How ? • Infoscience homepage – Add – Edit – Submit – Export – Quality
