Ohio license n n n OSMB meets on the Second Wed. and Thurs of the month Agenda items must be in the hands and through finance of the OSMB the second or last week of preceding month Application for license must be complete; (do not send pieces and parts) All questions answered: Do you have a DUI? Once on the agenda, if all is well, license posted on the Friday or Monday after the meeting. * The OSMB does NOT give out temporary licenses!
Hiring May be contingent upon your passing certification test, licensure and privileging n Before given a start date you must have: n Complete hospital privileges l Approved supervision agreement (or plan with private practice) from the OSMB l
Privileging n n n As of Jan. 2004 JCAHO stated that all PA’s working within a hospital system must be privileged through the same system as the physicians BEFORE they are allowed to practice at that facility. Even if you are going into private practice, you will be affiliated with some hospital system. Example: PA’s must be privileged by the Board of Governors at CCF before a start date is given. (our process has taken any where from 1 wk to 3 months, depending on applicant).
Privileging continued: n n n Once applicant accepts a job offer, a privileging packet is sent out to him/her. The packet must be completed within 3 -5 days and returned. All areas must be completed on application; including full contact information for references. References are key to getting through privileging seamlessly. Packets can be sent out with contingencies: obtaining certification, license, etc.
Privileging continued: n Timeline dependent upon: l l l NCCPA results OSMB license References returning forms Completed application w/o questions Dates of PA privileging committee Dates of BOG meetings: 2 nd and 4 th Tues

CTP n n n You must begin your position as a PA before you apply for your CTP. WHY? You need a supervising physician to sign your application. CME requirements: 30 hrs of pharmacology, 15 hrs of fiscal and ethical CME (all within Ohio PA programs). Out of state new grads must complete the DVD from OAPA for fiscal and ethical. 20 hrs of onsite supervision hours with physician All must be complete before you apply! Once completed application is in OSMB hands, processing takes about 2 wks (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer).
What can stall this process? n n n Any formal action against you; DUI, suspensions, etc. You must be honest on all legal forms; OSMB, privileging. All organizations use the National Data Bank and background checks now; IE: fingerprinting, etc. If you answer “yes” to any questions, on disclosures, please attach thorough documentation to why you answered yes. BE HONEST AND THOROUGH! This is not a situation where it is better to seek forgiveness than ask permission! Disclose everything.
Conclusions n Be prepared: Take the NCCPA test as soon as you can; your job offer may depend on it. Have your OSMB application ready (as much as you can) Fingerprinting in Columbus is the fastest Make sure you chose reliable references for privileging! Be nice throughout the process: n …Out of your smile will bloom a flower… n n n Thich Nhat Hanh
