Pizza Many people consider pizza to be the perfect food. p It contains all the food groups! p n n n Fats, Oils & Sweets: fat & oil used to bake Meat: pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, etc. Dairy: cheese Grain: dough Fruit: tomatoes for sauce, pineapple Vegetable: bell pepper, onions, mushrooms, etc.

A well-defined target market is the first element of a marketing strategy. p Examples: Busy parents, small children, teens, health conscious customers, vegetarians, etc. p
Diversity in pizza Around the world, pizza toppings vary greatly; reflecting regional tastes, indigenous foods and cultural preferences. p United States—Pepperoni is the most popular by far with at least 36% of all pizza orders. p Venezuela—The most popular toppings are pepperoni, vegetarian and anchovies. Agriculture Companies like Cargill, the largest privately owned company in the world, produce food ingredients. p Over 90% of the food Americans eat either are made by Cargill or contain a product made by Cargill. p Corn syrup is one such ingredient. p
Agriculture is the foundation of society. p Before agriculture, humans existed as hunters & gatherers. p Until plants & animals were domesticated, humans did not live in permanent homes & had to constantly travel to look for new food sources. p Land that is farmed can produce 60 -100 times more food than land that is used for hunting & gathering. p
Agriculture Domestication is the taming & breeding of animals for food. p It is also the planting & harvesting of plants for food. p People who move to hunt & gather food are called nomads. p Nomads did not live in permanent structures. p
Agriculture Society started b/c agriculture allowed people to settle down. p Once people could settle down and didn’t have to spend time hunting for food, they started other industries & professions. p Draw a picture showing modern agriculture.

Agriculture in Louisiana 1 American farmer produces enough food to feed 129 other people. p Today agriculture is still an essential industry, especially in LA. p Over $9 billion was made last year in LA. p 21% of all jobs in LA are farm-related, even more are employed by supporting industries that market & merchandise the products. p LA has over 26, 500 farms & ranches. p Forestry is LA’s #1 agricultural industry. p
Agriculture in Louisiana p p p LA is #1 in the nation in the production of crawfish, shrimp, alligators, menhaden & oysters. LA is the sole producer of Tabasco peppers for Tabasco in the US. LA is the leader in sugarcane. LA is #3 producer of rice. Other important crops: n n n Soybeans Sweet potatoes Cotton Strawberries Feed grain
LA’s Natural Resources p How many of you like to go… n n n p Fishing? Biking? Hunting? Boating? Hiking? Camping? Besides recreation, our natural resources provide our state with the ability to sustain a variety of industries. n n LA farms & ranches utilize 7. 9 million acres of land. LA has aquifers below it. The water is used to irrigate crops.
