The city is The Entertainment Capital of the World, and famous for its casino resorts and associated entertainment.
Las Vegas is situated in Clark County. The Spring Mountains lie to the west. Las Vegas’ climate is a subtropical desert climate, typical of the Mojave Desert in which it lies. The city enjoys abundant sunshine year-round: it has an average of about 300 sunny days per year.
The first visitor to the Las Vegas Valley was Raphael Rivera in 1829. Las Vegas was named by Spaniards in the Antonio Armijo party. In the 19 th century, areas of the valley contained artesian wells that supported green areas or meadows (vegas in Spanish); hence the name Las Vegas. Nevada has also become known as a state of freedom and greater opportunities.
In the 1950 s Las Vegas has also become a tourist attraction in a quite unusual way. Explosions could be seen from the hotel right in the heart of Las Vegas. Now the only reminder of this events is Atomic Testing Museum.
In Las Vegas there is a lot of museums a wide range of subjects: Museum of Neon Light, Madame Tussauds Museum, Natural History Museum, Museum of Antique Cars and others. Las Vegas annually visit about 40 million guests. The city has many different attractions such as “dancing fountains” of hotel Bellagio, Eiffel Tower copy of the hotel Paris , the “Venetian” channels and many others, but the main appeal of Las Vegas are remaining of course its casinos.
