I want to visit Lapland for two main reasons…
First it is Santa Claus Village and Secondly - Santa Park
About a hundred years ago, a passer-by started spreading the word about Ear Mountain and the existence of its inhabitants. Santa wanted to safeguard the tranquillity of his secret hiding place and came up with a superb idea that also allowed him to meet people who love Christmas and his many friends who come to greet him. It was around half a century ago that Santa Claus started to frequently visit the Arctic Circle near Rovaniemi. From the turn of the millennium, the Lappish centre for Christmas, the Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle became the most spectacular Santa Claus destination in Scandinavia. The popularity of the destination saw the number of visitors double. The numbers of international visitors in particular increased up to fourfold in a few years to exceed half a million.
Santa Claus office
The heavy wooden door creaks as you enter the candle -lit, atmosphere-rich office. Now there’s a familiar looking old man in crimson sitting by the desk. Santa Claus wishes children and adults alike a very warm welcome to his office. You can hand your wish list to Santa in person or whisper your wishes right into the ear of jolly Santa Claus.
Post Office
Santa. Park’s Post Office is certainly no ordinary post office. It works with Elf Magic! Come and see how the letter sorting machinery is helping the elves in sorting out all the mail arriving to the Arctic Circle and hear how exactly it happens from the post office elf. Cards and letters sent from the Santa. Park Post Office are all stamped with a special stamp, and you can also send Christmas cards ready for next Christmas or have them delivered straight away!
Elf School
“Everyone needs elf skills”, assures Elfology Expert, Professor Elf. Indeed, Santa. Park’s Elf School teaches ancient elf secrets all through the year. The skills learned can be used at home by children and adults alike. Those attending Elf School have the opportunity to graduate and be awarded a personal Elf School Certificate as a mark of your achievement at Elf School.
Angry Birds Activity Park
At the Angry Birds activity park, you can play and enjoy fun activities inspired by your favorite game. Shoot the slingshot, make pigs fly and practice the necessary game skills for real!
Calligraphy School
At Santa. Park's Calligraphy School, traditional oldfashioned elf writing is practiced under the supervision of elves. With a little bit of practice, you can even write a Christmas card with beautiful and fancy script letters.
Ice Gallery & Ice Bar
Beyond the white icicles and frosty rooftops in the magical Ice Gallery of the Ice Princess, your breath turns to vapour and the refreshing below-freezing temperatures will cheer you up throughout the year. In the Ice Gallery, visitors will learn about Finnish nature in the form of spectacular ice sculptures. Enjoy refreshing drinks in the Ice Bar, such as the Ice Princess Kiss, served in a handmade ice glass.
Four Seasons – Sleigh Ride
Ride the sleigh to experience the magical Arctic Winter of Lapland. Try and spot the different animals and fairytales along the way. At the end of the ride the sleigh runs through the Elves' Toy Factory where there's lots of busy work going on throughout the year.
Mrs. Claus Gingerbread Kitchen
The enticing aromas of the Gingerbread Kitchen beckon Elf Pupils to decorate gingerbread baked by Mrs Claus using her secret recipe. Will you eat them right away or resist temptation and take the gingerbread back home with you? The Gingerbread Kitchen also serves delicious mulled wine and other refreshments and delicacies that you can savour immediately or take home.
Elf Workshop
Arts and crafts are second nature for the elves. In the Elf Workshop you experience the joy of creation and perhaps allow your imagination to fly make your own best ever Christmas decoration.
Undercrossing the Arctic Circle
There a thousand different ways to cross the Arctic Circle, but there is only one place in the world where it can be crossed from below, not to mention being 50 metres below ground. Everyone with a sense of adventure will want to experience this unique achievement and immortalise the moment for the people at home. You can also get an Arctic Circle Undercrossing Certificate.
