Atlantic Slave Trade The Atlantic slave trade was a prosperous trading cycle known as the triangular trade. Trade happened between Europe, Africa and the Americas between the 15 th and 19 th centuries.
Triangular Trade, Part 1 In the first part of the triangle, European merchants purchased African slaves with commodities manufactured in Europe.
Triangular Trade, Part 2 Merchants then sold the slaves in the Caribbean and purchased commodities such as sugar, cotton, and tobacco.
Triangular Trade, Part 3 Finally the merchants would sell these goods in Europe and North America. They would use the profits from these sales to purchase more goods to trade in Africa, continuing the trading cycle.
