Born in the British colony Gold Coast, which later became the independent state of Ghana His family: Father: Henry Reginald Annan Mother: Victoria Annan Wife: Nana Maria Annan Children: son: Kojo

His father was the Supreme leader of the tribe Fanti and the Governor of the province of Ashanti. Annan was educated in Switzerland the USA. Then he joined the Massachusetts Institute of technology and, as a student, already in 1971, started working in the UN as a who staff member.

Kofi Annan is married. His Swedish wife, Nane Annan, niece of the Swedish fighter for saving Jews from the Nazis Raoul Wallenberg. Fluent in English and French, but prefers to communicate first.

His professional activities

Kofi Annan was the 7 th Secretary-General of the United Nations. In 2001, he and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace.

Elected after the US vetoed the candidacy to stand for Boutros-Ghali.

Kofi Annan served as Secretary-General of the UN from 1 January 1997, re-elected for a second term on 29 June 2001, term of office expired on 31 December 2006. Kofi Annan is the first representative of the black population of Africa in the post of UN Secretary General.

Interesting facts 1. ) In the language of the indigenous population of Ghana "Kofi" means "born on Friday". The Ashanti people have names for all 7 days of the week: Adwoa (Monday), Abena (Tuesday), Akua (Wednesday), Ahamisi (Thursday) Kofi (Friday), Ama (Saturday), Akosua (Sunday). 2. ) The nephew of Kofi Annan, footballer Anthony Annan plays for the national team of Ghana.

3. )Kofi has a remarkable resemblance with the appearance of actor Morgan Freeman, which is why it often on the street mistaken for Freeman. 4. )Kofi Annan is honorary Chancellor of the University of Ghana.
