King of kings; Lord of lords!
King of kings; Not Le. Bron James…! Not Elvis Presley…! Not Felix Hernandez…!
This morning we will be taking a look at the BOOK of JUDGES and seeing two important things: 1. This was one of the darkest times in the history of the nation of Israel. 2. There are so many things within the Book of Judges which parallel our days. This should greatly concern us.
The Key Theme of the Book of Judges: Judges 21: 25 25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
The Repeating Cycle of the Book of Judges (It is a downward spiral of sin. ) Judges 2: 11 -19
The Repeating Cycle of the Book of Judges 1. Sin 2. Suffering/ Servitude 3. Supplication 4. Salvation … they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers. .
Judges Chapters 1 and 2 lay the foundation for the book. Judges Chapters 3 through 16 tell the stories of the different judges whom God raised up to deliver and rule over different parts of the nation of Israel.
The Role of the Judges: The judges were called by God and empowered by God to unite the people of God to stand against the enemy.
Judges Chapters 17 through 21 are sometimes labeled “The Appendices. ” These four chapters are a collection of various stories of the day which describe how vile and corrupt things had become. It is very much like become reading the newspaper today!
The Saddest Verse in the Bible? : Judges 2: 10 When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.
They did not “know” the Lord. Perhaps they had heard about Him? But they had NO first hand personal experience of Him. They had heard stories… kind of like fairy tales… you know…. the way many people treat the Bible today!
The Bible… you know… It is a great collection of stories, but you certainly don’t believe that they are true do you? Well, do you?
Job 42: 5 -6 5 “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. 6 Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes. ”
Let’s now go back to Judges 21: 25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Doesn’t this seem like it describes our day and our times… everyone did what was right in his own eyes? Very post-modern!
Proverbs 14: 12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.
Proverbs 16: 25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.
People are living today like there is no king; Everyone does what is right in his own eyes!
I am here to tell you today that WE HAVE A KING!
His name is JESUS!
There is a King today! His name is JESUS! I want to ask you a very important question today: Do you know Him?
Do you know Him?
He is the King of kings! He is the Lord of lords!
He is my Savior! He is my Redeemer!
He is the Good Shepherd! He is the Bread of Life!
He is the Way! He is the Truth! He is the Life!
In fact, He is the Resurrection and the Life!
He is the Light in our darkness!
He is the Bright and Morning Star!
He is the Alpha and the Omega; The Beginning and the End!
Do you know Him?
If know Him, you will be willing to serve Him and to worship Him, to lay down your life as a living sacrifice to honor Him!
If know Him, then it means His will is supreme in your heart and your life! You read your Bible, you spend time in prayer so that you can know His will so that you can honor Him by doing His will!
I am here to tell you today that WE HAVE A KING!
His name is JESUS!
