JOINT DISTANCE SUPPORT and RESPONSE (JDSR) Advance Technology Demonstration (ACTD) SYSTEMS BRIEF 22 January 2004 Bill Taw Technical Manager Ken Johnson Deputy Technical Manager LCDR Mark Leary Operational Manager, CFFC/JFCOM Mr. Mike Howard Transition Manager, NAVSEA
What Is JDSR ACTD? An approved FY 02 - 06 advanced concept technology demonstration. Integrates services’ unique Tele-maintenance initiatives in order to establish a common and interoperable Tele-maintenance environment. Focuses on timely employment of knowledge, both automated and live, to the different service maintainers. A demonstration that will determine the impact technology, procedures and techniques will have on maintenance operations and equipment availability. 2
Joint War-fighting Problems 1. Limited battlefield access to expert problem solving resources on demand Ø Lack of near real-time maintenance support Ø Lack of adequate access to quality information for repair and training 2. Lack of near-real time view of equipment status and limited collection of corporate knowledge 3. Lack of ability to retain highly skilled and experienced maintenance personnel, especially for low density / high demand items
Overall Advanced Concept Solution G O A L S Ø Establish a common and interoperable tele-maintenance/training environment Ø Reduce burden on maintenance/training system- lower infrastructure costs, smaller logistics footprint, reduce maintainer workload, and personnel requirements. Ø Enhance Operational Unit Readiness; provide maintenance options for low density, high demand assets.
