When? Where? In the English town of Ashbourne such a competition is held annually. This happens on Shrovetide. The match starts at 14: 00 and lasts until 20: 00.
History This sport is 800 years old. The name "Royal“ was given to this unusual sport in 1928. It was when the Prince of Wales personally announced the start of the next match.
The rules of game All citizens are divided into two teams. They are "northerners", that is, people living to the north of the river and "southerners" - respectively living to the south of the river. In this sport there are no restrictions on the number of players. In the role of the gate there are two mills, they are in different parts of the city. A field for the players is all their glorious city. So on the day of the Royal football people tend not to leave their cars on the street. And shopkeepers arrange a day off. It does not matter which way the ball will be delivered to the gate. Here, all means are good. However, there are some restrictions. For example, you can not fight and use force techniques.
