Use of Credit • In the 1920 installment plans were becoming increasingly popular. With these plans Americans no longer had to pay cash up front for their purchases. Now they could make a series of payments to pay off an item that they might not have been able to buy otherwise. • When credit was introduced it helped fuel the consumer economy that America had developed and led to an increase in American spending increasing the need for workers and industries advances. • The use of credit has both destroyed and built up our economy. Since the use of credit has become more common more and more people use it. When people use credit and do not have the money to pay for their purchases, they are forced to go bankrupt or other different consequences. • Credit has also built up our credit as an economy. When people have good credit (A. K. A. paying off the money that has been charged to their account) than they are able to buy what ever they want rather than a person with bad credit that is forced to use other forms of payment like cash, or are not able to pay at all.
The Assembly Line • What: The Assembly Line. The assembly line was a line of people who added parts to a moving unfinished product to assemble the product faster and more efficiently. • When: In the early 1920’s • Who: The first functioning assembly line was invented in 1901 by Ransom E Olds. It was later improved by Henry Ford in the early 1920’s when he added a conveyor belt. • • Where: Henry Ford used the assembly line in his production plants in Michigan. • Why: Henry Ford had a dream of making the automobile affordable to all Americans. He used the assembly line to mass produce his automobiles which made the prices drop drastically. With these price drops it made the automobile more practical for the average American families. • Long term effects: Since the Ford’s Assembly line, millions of other factories have used the line to produce their own products. • Why should we learn about this? : Ford’s great invention has changed the world as we know it because there is faster production and more products mean that we sell and buy more products. This has made our economy what it is today.
The Automobile • The 1920 s invention of the automobile bettered the lives of Middle Class America. Because these new Model T’s were being sold for $499 it was obtainable for many families. Henry Fords ability to lower prices came from the efficiency of the assembly line. • Because of the affordability of the Model T roads were being built, expanded, or improved. Also the automobile industry made many more jobs for Americans and provided a better means of transportation. People could now go out more, go on vacations, and be more social. • Over all, the invention of the automobile changed American culture
