Introduction What is this course about? This course is an overview of the history Introduction What is this course about? This course is an overview of the history of civilizations and presents a civilizational approach in the understanding of the modern world. It discusses civilizational components of human beings activities and provides students of international relations with a broader historical background. This course exposes the idea that the contemporary world has inherited important elements from ancient civilizations. Sometimes, we don’t know how much we owe to the civilizations that ”died”. Thus, we can hardly say that civilizations simply passed away.

In the time of globalization, a knowledge of the history of civilizations combined with a culturalist approach to international relations obtains practical value as it helps to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts caused by cultural and civilizational differences between people. Graduates of this course will be aware of cultural diversity and will be better prepared to work in muliticultural teams.
