Introduction to Foundry A foundry is a factory that produces metal castings. -The most used to produce castings: -bronze; -- steel; --magnesium; --copper; -Aluminium; --zinc & others
Metalworking Process castings: • liquid metal into a mold; • solidification; • shake-out of shape; • machining; • heat treatment.
NSTU Introduced new specialization “foundry” in 1928 Major academic foundries
NSTU 1950 – was organized by metallurgical faculty; 1952 - department was "Foundry of ferrous and non-ferrous metals" headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Anton Ryzhikov Abramovich (1909 -1992)
“Foundry of ferrous and non-ferrous metals” In 1958 Ministry of Higher and Specialized Secondary Education organized research laboratory ductile cast metal under the leadership of A. A. Ryzhikov.
New specialization mechanical engineers electrical engineers
From 1988 to 1998 y. Head of Department is Fokin V. I. The main directions of research in this period were: • suspension casting of steel and cast iron; • Ladle treatment and modification of cast iron; • developed technology of valves for the oil and gas industry.
1998 is a new breakthrow! Department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Leushin I. O.
New specialization Ecology in the foundry industry Processing of secondary metals Art and precision casting
XXI century In 2002, the 50 th anniversary of the formation of the department "Foundry", now the department “FMPA”. The main scientific direction of the department of research is increasing the density and homogeneity of the molten metal, which has become a traditional and fully corresponds to the profile of the department.
