The ITC Surveys u Extensive surveys of probability samples of adult smokers in each country u Longitudinal cohort design: same respondents are tracked over time (with replenishment at each wave). Strong advantages over repeat cross-sectional designs (where you survey different people at each time point) u Identical/similar methods/measures in all countries, defined by a strong theory-based conceptual model of policy impact. Allows strong cross-country comparisons u Use “natural experiment” designs (also known as “quasiexperimental designs”) for strong evaluation. 5
