Be SMART! • • • Remember to be SMART: SAFE MEETING ACCEPTING RELIABLE TELL
SAFE • Be careful not to give out your personal information to strangers online. • Don’t give out your name, age and address, as well as your email account, phone number or password for anything.
MEETING • Don’t be friends with strangers that you have only met online. • Only do so if you know them, or your parents know them • Do not decide to let a stranger from online into your house.
ACCEPTING • Accepting emails can be dangerous • Do not reply to emails from an anonymous person • Do not accept texts from people you don’t know • Do not accept offers from a stranger who you don’t know
RELIABLE • Anyone could lie about who they really are, and you don’t know all the information on the internet is really true. • Always check with someone or something else to confirm it’s true. • If your chatting online, it is safer to dos so with someone you know already.
TELL • Tell your parents or an adult who you trust, if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable. • If you are being bullied or know of someone that is, it is best to tell.
CE-OP BUTTON • CE-OP stands for Child Exploitation and Online Protection command. • CE-OP can help you if you have been hacked and if you feel worried or unsafe about something online. • You can find the button online or on social media.
WHAT IS A FIREWALL? • A firewall is a software program that helps protect you from hackers or viruses that try and take over your computer over the Internet. • Some laptops have a firewall built in, but you can still download extra security, which sometimes costs: make sure it is a trusted program first (like AVG or Mc. Afee)
HOW TO ENSURE DOWNLOADS ARE SAFE • If you have a virus scanner, this will tell you whether the download is safe or not. • You can often tell by simply thinking about it: on an official website like Microsoft, downloads are safe. However, if you use a third-party website, your safety is at risk.
Thank you for watching! REMEMBER: Be Safe!
