Twitter Richard Tyler from Octink sent in the following story in response to our Tweet for active commute journeys… “After watching Bradley Wiggins gliding through the Streets on his way to Gold I thought I might apply his silky smooth technique to my commute home. It was all going very well when I time checked myself at Kew Bridge, Acton Town Tube and finally Gypsy Corner. A full minute off my PB. Feeling rather pleased with myself I unzipped my top and coasted through the back streets of North Acton. As I turned down a service road I had a quick peek (to make sure no one was around) and raised my arms in a mock victory salute. My front wheel then jack knifed in the storm channel, high sided me and I landed in my neighbours front garden. Once I collected my thoughts I quickly got back in the saddle and cruised to victory through my front gate. ”
Feedback • Over the Olympics the roads have been empty and cycling has been great fun, long may it continue. Watching the team road race and time trials 10 minutes from my house was an inspiring experience. • With only living 4 miles away I have been increasing some of my journeys to and from work to make up extra distance. Only problem is my shirts are now baggier and it looks like I’ll need a new notch in my belt – I’ll have to go clothes shopping. • I thought it was a great idea to have a leader board and for people to challenge each other and to be able to see how far fellow colleagues had cycled. It spurred me on to keep cycling so as not to be beaten. I really didn’t believe that I would cycle every day, but I did (even in the rain). I couldn’t believe how much quicker door to door it is to cycle, first doing my journey in under 20 mins now about 13 mins and to drive it averages at about 23 mins.
