Amritstar Massacre • Ppl met to discuss politics both Hindus (polytheistic) & Muslims (monotheistic) came • Scared Br! • Shoot into crowd killing 100 s • Guess how ppl feel now?

Mohandas Gandhi (1869 -1948) • Civil disobedience: Nonviolent protest agst unfair laws – Boycott (don’t buy) Br goods like cloth (Gandhi weaves his own)

More Civil Disobedience…. – Stop paying taxes – Don’t vote **Would the Br care if they did these things? • These things hurt Br where they care the most ---- $$$ and orderly society • So, put a tax on salt (force ppl to pay taxes) • What should Gandhi do?

Salt March (1930) • Instead of paying tax, walk 240 miles to sea & get their own salt (illegal)!

• Sometimes, peaceful Indian protestors were met with violent British officials Should the Indian protestors use violence to get what they want?
