When you will be studying • From 10 th September until June • Part-time attendance at University Centre / Grimsby Institute for two years • Tuesday in class 1300 -1630 or 1800 -2130 (subject to demand) • Private study time will also be important
What you will be studying • Planning to teach in the Lifelong Learning sector • Theories and principles of learning and teaching • Developing specialist skills • Exploring professional practice • Personal and professional development • Curriculum development Total 120 credits – level of study dependant on pathway
Assessment on the Course Mixture of methods used on modules • Teaching files, projects, reports and essays • Minimum of 100 hours teaching • Minimum of eight observations of your teaching • Personal core skills
Support for you as a learner • Personal tutors • Mentor support during your teaching practice • Electronic information and materials on Moodle and Hull’s virtual learning environment • Study skills support • The group
Entry Requirements • Employed as a teacher/trainer • Minimum level 3 qualification in subject area • Access to a minimum of 50 hours teaching per year • Reference
Funding • Tuition fees - £ 2, 997 first year (possible inflationary rise in 14/15) • Student loans – payback after completion of programme and when earning more than £ 21 k. • Loan not available for Post Graduate pathway. • Additional funding may be available depending on individual circumstances. • GIG staff can apply for staff development funds; currently 1/3 for CE/Prof Grad – possibility ½ for Post Grad.

Things to consider • Professional commitment to the course - especially attendance • Managing your time and personal circumstances • Financial implications: – Ensure when applying for a loan you state the correct programme title! – GIG staff submit a Staff Development application • It does not confer Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for schools, (though QTLS can be applied for and now has parity – If. L now charge £ 485 for professional formation) • It is not just another course – it is a professional qualification and all that goes with it!
