Vaccination is one of the prevention pillars of travel-related infectious diseases. Despite many information efforts, vaccine coverage remains insufficient. The complexity of recommendations, the lack of trust of the public, and the inappropriate information media (paper, offline digital data) partially explain these results. In France, as part of the 2012 -2017 vaccination policy improvement program, the establishment of an electronic immunization record (EIR) is being tested. OBJECTIVE Evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the establishment of an EIR in a travel clinic METHODS Describe the incorporation of the information and communication platform Mesvaccins. net in a travel clinic. EIR is available on Internet or smartphones for travelers, who can, thanks to a code, share their EIR with a designated health care professional. However, according to the WHO regulation, the mandatory yellow fever international certificate of vaccination is still required. RESULTS Mes. Vaccins. net is a real-time vaccine and travel medicine-related information website which integrates the EIR. This new tool allows a customized follow-up of vaccinations. Mes. Vaccins. net expertise process This expert system is secured and approved by the French national commission on computer science and liberties, the French agency of digital health, and the World Health Organization (vaccine safety network). In our travel clinic, the EIR was included in our professional software using an Application Programming Interface (API) and 10, 000 records were created between April through December of 2016. Mesvaccin. net is a free website developed by a non-lucrative and pharmaceutical industry-independent association, the Groupe de préventologie (preventive medicine group). In France, more than 8000 physicians have already subscribed to this platform. COMMENTS Mes. Vaccins. net vaccinology information system is useful : For the traveler Participatory approach Preventive education It takes into account the individual characteristics of the traveler and his/her previous immunizations in order to determine the appropriate vaccinations for a specific travel. Customized recommendations for a 33 -year-old splenectomized male For the health professional A clear and motivated « what to do » Inter-professional links Continuous training, based on the patients For the public health A dashboard for public health actions Improving pharmacovigilance and vaccine safety Improving economic efficiency CONCLUSION This tool is easy to set up with an excellent feedback from health care providers and travelers. Many other applications like evaluation of vaccination coverage and pharmacovigilance are also possible. This tool is a decision helper (expert system) for physicians. It helps improving vaccine coverage in travelers receiving messages regarding booster doses (email, SMS). Wilson K, Atkinson KM.
