IELTS SPEAKING
IELTS Speaking test is the fourth section of IELTS test. It is the same for Academic and General IELTS. Time 10 -15 min Sections 3
Section 1 (4 -5 min) You will be asked some questions on general topics: 1. work 2. studies 3. home 4. family 5. interests
Section 2 (3– 4 min). 1. You will be given a task card about a particular topic. 2. You will have 1 minute to prepare a monologue on the given topic. 3. Then you return the task card to the examiner and talk about the topic for 2 minutes. 4. After your talk the examiner may ask you a few questions.
Section 3 (4– 5 min). The third section involves a discussion between the examiner and the test taker, generally on questions relating to theme which they have already spoken about in Section 2.
IELTS Speaking scores are calculated using 4 criteria: Fluency and coherence (FC) how clear and structured is your speech Lexical Resource (LR) how good is your vocabulary Pronunciation (P) how naturally you sound Grammatical Range and Accuracy (GRA) how good is your grammar
IELTS Speaking score calculation. Each of the criteria receives a score from 0 to 9 points. For example, if your marks are: Fluency and Cohesion: 7. 5, Pronunciation: 7. 0, Lexical Resource: 7. 0, Grammatical Range and Accuracy: - 7. 5. Then your total score for IELTS Speaking is (7. 5+7. 0+7. 5)/4 =7. 25, which will be rounded to 7. 5.
