ICCP & Certifications n ICCP: Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (www. iccp. org) n Administer certifications for IS professionals n n Systems analysts and administrators, Programmers, IS managers Certifications include n Information Systems Analyst (ISA) n n n Associate Computing Professional (ACP) n n Baccalaureate degree in IS or CS ISA Exam Pass at 50%-70% Practitioner Certificate Pass at 70% or higher Mastery Certificate ISA Exam Plus Programming Exam or Specialty Exam Need to score 50% or higher Certified Computing Professional (CCP) n n n ISA Exam Plus 2 Specialty Exams and 2 Years Professional Experience Need to score 70% or higher

What does this have to do with WWU? n n WWU has participated in development of ICCP’s ISA exam We will be providing the exam to our students again this year n n WWU pays a fee and faculty members will help with ongoing exam maintenance Benefits for participation n WWU’s IS students n n Acquire experience with a national certification exam Get a “free try” at ICCP’s national certification exam n n If exam goes well, you may wish to apply test performance toward ICCP certification (ISA) -- $99 certification fee WWU IS faculty will use aggregate test results to help with IS program assessment

Test & Format n n Format is similar to a SAT exam for IS professionals Getting exam experience at this stage of your career will be a useful professional development activity n n Time Limit: 3 hours Format n n Do not need to study for test Score will not be used for grading of this course Multiple choice questions Length: 258 questions NO Penalty for guessing/wrong answers Not an easy test … Recall that this is an exam for professional certification

Exam Content n Based on the “IS 2002” model curriculum (www. is 2000. org) n n This is the “standard” model for USA colleges Topic areas n Information Technology Skills n n Organizational Systems Development n n Hardware, Software, Database, Networking, WWW development, etc. Strategic systems, Systems development, Project management Organizational and Professional Skills n Business problems and technical solutions, Interpersonal skills, Team skills, Ethics

Test Process n n n Exam date: Tuesday, May 24, 2005 Exam is WWW-based and will be administered using ICCP’s protocols Need to pre-register this week n n Do via WWW by 1 pm Friday afternoon Dr. Tyran will send registration instructions via e-mail to your WWU e-mail account n n If you do not get e-mail from Dr. Tyran then contact him ASAP at craig. tyran@wwu. edu ! Activities on day of test n n n Meet at 8: 30 am at Arntzen Hall computer lab (AH 05) Exam check-in process Take exam (3 hours) n n Feedback after test Your overall score will be provided immediately If score > 50%, you may wish to consider ISA certification
