Why an IBM 9910 UPS? • Tested for compatibility and fully integrated with IBM System i™, System p™ & System x™ solutions to speed implementation and assure out-of-box usability (so no unwanted surprises) • • An extended three-year warranty supported by IBM (standard is 1 year) • • All software can be remotely monitored and is visible through the likes of IBM’s Director consol, Tivoli and Power Executive ensuring good integration with IBM A premium service package, including battery (battery not normally included) The right level of conditioning of utility power and battery backup for your chosen server (IBM approved match) Main menu Slide 4 IBM 9910 Training including Simplification Process and E 82 & E 83 launch
Simplification Process In order to further IBM’s Green Initiative, Eaton have pledged to reduce carbon miles and increase operational efficiency to ensure a greener world. As a result of this simplification process we have altered the part codes for the 9910 UPS. The content of the bundles remain the same, we have just substituted the ‘P’ for an ‘E’ on the part code Example: ‘P 33’ is now called ‘E 33’ ‘P 30’ is now called ‘E 30’ and so on …. . Architecting Power Solutions 1. Determine redundancy • • 2. Non-redundant: All power device/PDU power cords connect to one power source, e. g. UPS Dual-redundant: one-half of power device/PDU power cords connect to UPS. Other half connect to secondary (redundant) power source which can be a 2 nd UPS or PDU(s). Select PDUs power cord features • • Slide 22 1 st PDU: If E 82, ensure rack configuration includes #6492 (IEC 60309 2 P+G 60 A plug). If E 83, pick #6491 (IEC 60309 P+N+G 63 A plug). 2 nd – 4 th PDUs: Pick #2974 with the UPS. IBM 9910 Training including Simplification Process and E 82 & E 83 launch Main menu
Non-Redundant Power Architecture This solution shows one PDU powered from UPS with non-redundant power. 1 st PDU: If E 82, ensure rack configuration includes #6492 (IEC 60309 2 P+G 60 A plug). If E 83, pick #6491 (IEC 60309 P+N+G 63 A plug). These will mate to UPS output receptacle. Slide 23 *Using 2974 limits the PDU to 16 Amps. IBM 9910 Training including Simplification Process and E 82 & E 83 launch
Non-Redundant Power Architecture This solution shows two PDUs powered from UPS with nonredundant power. This means that the UPS is the single power source. 1 st PDU: If E 82, ensure rack configuration includes #6492 (IEC 60309 2 P+G 60 A plug). If E 83, pick #6491 (IEC 60309 P+N+G 63 A plug). These will mate to UPS output receptacle. 2 nd - 4 th PDU: Pick one #2974 per PDU. Note, due to power connection rating, #2974 limits the PDU to 16 Amps of loads (approx. 3200 Watts). *Using 2974 limits the PDU to 16 Amps. Slide 24 IBM 9910 Training including Simplification Process and E 82 & E 83 launch
Redundant Power Architecture This solution shows two PDUs. One powered from UPS and 2 nd powered from separate power source (mains) or 2 nd UPS. This is dual-redundant power. 1 st PDU: If E 82, ensure rack configuration includes #6492 (IEC 60309 2 P+G 60 A plug). If E 83, pick #6491 (IEC 60309 P+N+G 63 A plug). These will mate to UPS output receptacle. 2 nd PDU: Pick same power cord feature as 1 st PDU. 3 rd – 4 th PDU: 3 rd PDU powered from UPS using #2974. 4 th PDU powered from separate power source (mains) as 2 nd PDU. Slide 25 *Using 2974 limits the PDU to 16 Amps. IBM 9910 Training including Simplification Process and E 82 & E 83 launch

How to sell more UPS • Ensure you offer a UPS with ALL configurations • • • >90% of all servers end up with a UPS attached, ensure your customer buys it from you and that you buy the best there is – an IM server proven UPS. With System P you need to manually add the UPS, this can be found in the ‘accessories’ section on the configurator. Always enquire about consolidation • It pay to get rid of older less efficient UPS’s and get newer larger UPS to cover more (EG: the E 83 10 k. VA) Main menu Slide 28 IBM 9910 Training including Simplification Process and E 82 & E 83 launch
