INTRODUCTION HRS Heat Exchangers is a fully owned subsidiary of the HRS Group. Since 1981, HRS has designed, manufactured and sold heat exchanger technology and process systems for many different industries. CORRUGATED TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS Heat Exchangers applies corrugated tubes in the heat exchangers it manufactures. Corrugated tubes heat exchangers provide interesting advantages compared to smooth tube heat exchangers: Corrugation disrupts the boundary layer near the tube wall. Corrugation introduces extra turbulence. Extra turbulence means less fouling. Corrugation increases heat transfer. Corrugated tubes allows for more economic designs. UNICUS: DYNAMIC SCRAPED SURFACE HEAT EXCHANGER HRS Heat Exchangers has developed the Unicus for applications where corrugated tubular heat exchangers can no longer perform: High fouling applications. Very viscous fluids. For these applications it is necessary to keep the heat transfer surface clean at all times. Also it is important to mix the fluid and increase the heat transfer. This is exactly what the Unicus does. The Unicus is a dynamic scraped surface heat exchanger. It outperforms normal shell and tube heat exchangers, works fouling free and has high heat transfer rates. UNICUS: DYNAMIC SCRAPED SURFACE HEAT EXCHANGER The Unicus is a shell and tube exchanger. Each interior tube contains a scraped bar with scraper elements. The reciprocal movement of the scraped bar mixes the fluid and keeps heat transfer rates high. The scraper bars are moved by means of a hydraulic drive or pneumatic drive system. The scrapers continuously clean the tube wall and remove any formation of fouling layers. Zero fouling means that shutdowns for heat exchanger cleaning reduced. Less downtime results in a more economic operation. Various types of scraper elements can be fitted. The scraper type depends on the type of application and product. PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS The plate heat exchanger consists of a series of heat transfer plates (separated between gaskets) which are fixed between a fixed plate and a pressure plate. The plate heat exchanger contains a lot of heat transfer area in a very small space. Each plate has a corrugate profile for increasing heat transfer. EVAPORATORS Heat Exchangers applies the corrugated tube heat exchangers and the Unicus scraped surface heat exchanger as evaporators. The corrugated tube heat exchangers are applied for low viscosity evaporation without fouling. The Unicus evaporators are applied for concentrating to high dry matter contents. In these cases fouling and high viscosities are often a problem. HRS Heat Exchangers applies these evaporators in a forced recirculation setup. PISTON PUMP HRS Heat Exchangers has developed a positive displacement piston pump for applications closely related to Unicus applications: delicate and viscous food products. The piston pump is able to pump food stuff with large particulates without damaging the structure of the product.
