Why is Humidification Important? • Consumer need for Indoor Air Quality solutions mushroomed in the nineties as homes were starting to be built more tightly and people become more aware of health related issues. • It is estimated that 1 -in-6 Americans have allergies, asthma or respiratory problems. While air cleaners and ventilation keep indoor air clean, proper humidification is needed to help control, minimize and eliminate unhealthy airborne pollutants. • There are five major reasons Humidification is important: • • • Health Comfort Energy Savings Consumer Need Consumer Demand Click For Next Slide
Humidity & Health Optimum • The ASHRAE standard range design level indoor relative humidity is between 40 -60% ASHRAE recommended winter for optimum Zone year round, and 35% during the heating season. Bacteria • Controlling indoor relative humidity is important to health because too little humidity can create microscopic cracks in a person’s nasal membrane, leaving the body more vulnerable Viruses to infections from bacteria and viruses. Fungi • Conversely, too much humidity creates ideal breeding conditions for mold, mildew and dust mites; from which the waste products are among the most troublesome triggers of Mites asthma and allergies. Respiratory Infections • Air conditioners, dehumidifiers and ventilation can keep RH levels from getting too high Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma during non-heating seasons, but during cold weather these homes need humidification to avoid the unpleasantness of too much or too little humidification. Chemical Interactions • Ozone Production And as requirements and need for ventilation systems grow, so too will the need for humidification. 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 Impact of Indoor Relative Humidity on Common Biologic Indoor Air Pollutants* Click For Next Slide *American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc 1985 90
Comfort & Energy Savings With proper humidification, Homeowners can: • Reduce static electricity, static cling, and dry irritated skin. • Protect the woodwork, furniture, and paintings from ‘drying out’ and cracking. • Reduce energy costs because moist air feels warmer than dry air, so Homeowners can set their thermostats back without noticing a drop in temperature, effectively saving money on their utility bills. In fact, lowering a thermostat just three degrees can reduce heating bills by 5% or more! Click For Next Slide
Humidification Climates • Aside from coastal regions of the west and southeast, most every region in the U. S. can benefit from indoor humidification control. • Geographically, Southwest, Midwest, Northern and Mountainous areas of North America can benefit greatly from humidification. Who Needs Humidification? • Families with children • People who suffer from respiratory dryness, cracked throat, dry nasal cavities • House healthy consumers • Transplants to new climate Click For Next Slide

HE 225/265 Operation and Installation • Thethe same time, the humidifier solenoid valve energizes toeither At typical installation the principlebypass humidifiers is when The HE 225/265 follow location for that vapor is created on provide water through water-soaked area. HE 360 Fan-Power Operation • For even greater capacity, the HE 365 powered flow-through uses an interior fan to humidify up to 18 gallons of water per day, humidifying a maximum capacity of 3000 sq feet. • The interior fan allows effective delivery of humidity regardless of system airflow velocities. The internal fan on the HE 365 acts as a booster, sucking warm dry air from the supply plenum, through the HE 365 blower fan and out into the supply. • Powered flow-through humidifiers do not require a bypass duct to create airflow through the pad. The humidifier fan sucks air into the humidifier and blows it out through the pad on its own. • For maximum efficiency, powered flow-through humidifiers should be mounted only to the supply plenum where the air temperature is hottest. HC 22 E, HC 26 E Humidifier Pads • For use with HE 365, HE 265 and HE 225 • Aluminum mesh layers provide durable media for humidification • Clay coating more effectively retains water • Ag. Patented Perfect. FLO® Water Distribution • The Honeywell water tray has a sloped, channeled surface which leads to drain holes that are flush with the tray bottom. • This allows for faster, more even water distribution over the humidifier pad, but also because there is no standing water in the tray, the risk of mineral build-up and maintenance is substantially reduced. • The contractor also has the liberty to be within 5% level without reducing water distribution evenness.
