The Great Patriotic War (1941 -1945) - The war between the USSR and Germany in the framework of the Second World War, which was ended with the victory of the Soviet Union over the Nazis and the capture of Berlin

The Nazis attacked the Soviet Union on the June, 22 1945…so the Great Patriotic War started. For ordinary Soviet people it was unexpected. Thousands of Soviet people were volunteers in the army.

Adolf Hitler was the head of Germany. He wanted to become the ruler of the whole world. At the beginning of the war Hitler's army was the most powerful and had the best weapons.

Our army was headed by Georgy Zhukov. It was he who defended Moscow. In the days, when the Nazis attacted the capital Zhukov had not slept for eleven days!
