The first fashion designer was 19 th century Charles Frederick Worth who started the world's first fashion house in Paris. He soon became so successful in his work that customers began seeking advice from him, rather than telling him what they wanted.
Geography The world of high fashion originated in Paris where it is still the "headquarters" of the fashion industry. London was also a pioneer in the fashion industry
1940’s World war II fabric shortages. Shorter skirts and more use of synthetic fabrics, like rayon. Simple styles=being patriotic. Long elegant dresses and hats of every shape and size.
1950’s After the war, women returned to feminine roles. Christian Dior introduced the “new look” (long hemlines, narrow shoulders, tight bodices and long, full, or narrow skirts) Shirtwaist era Jackets and blue jeans
1960’s A-Line. The 60’s opened with thesimple A-line dress. Mostdresses were very simpleand so accessories wereboth expressive and bold. Some fashion historywriters have called this erathe “Great masquerade. ” Eyes were lined with black, shadowed with frosty white, and topped off with a full set offalse eyelashes. Lips werepainted light to white. Twiggy was the top model. She was long and lean, whichwas a break from the fleshed. Edwardian beauty seen insome form up through the 1950’s
+1960’s Youth movement Hippie style Middle and far east influences (bright colors, peasant embroidery, safari jackets) “Mod Look” brought to the United States by the Beatles and other musical groups(mini skirts, gogo boots) Hippies used a natural style, love-ins, flowers, and free-flowing hairstyles.

1980 s. This period of time was a fun time for everyone. Music was always fun and lively. . The fashion during this time was really based off of the music and the creation of MTV. The vibes were great and bright so, so were the clothes. The clothes resembled bright, and physchedelic patterns. Big hair, bell bottoms for both men and women. Everything was over the top. No dull moments of just sweats were popular during this time period for anyone.
1980’s - the HAIR! The bigger the better would explain the hair of this period. Hairspray and ratting were an everyday need to obtain the height of the time. Bangs were very popular and often lifted many inches above the scalp. Crimping hair was very popular as well.
